SERMON: IT’S ALL OF GRACE!

Text: Ephesians 1:7–10

INTRODUCTION

Grace is the powerful, undeserved, unearned kindness of God that reaches down to fallen humanity and lifts us into His salvation. Grace is God doing for us what we could never do for ourselves. If salvation depended on human effort, none of us would qualify. But Paul declares that in Christ we have redemption, forgiveness of sins, and access to God, all “according to the riches of His grace.”

John Newton, writer of Amazing Grace, understood this deeply. A slave trader turned preacher, he called himself “an infidel, a libertine, a servant of slaves in Africa.” Yet grace found him, restored him, and turned the destroyer of faith into a preacher of the gospel. His life shouts one message: It’s all of grace!

1. GRACE LIFTS US FROM RUIN TO REDEMPTION

“In whom we have redemption through His blood…” (Eph. 1:7)

Redemption means to buy back. Sin kidnapped us, Satan enslaved us, and guilt condemned us. But Jesus paid the full price with His own blood.
You cannot redeem yourself. You cannot save yourself. You cannot buy your way out of sin.
Only grace steps into your dungeon and declares: “You are free!”

Just like John Newton, many of us were running away from God—living in rebellion, trapped between sin and conscience. But grace kept following. Grace kept knocking. Grace kept rescuing. And today we stand here only because grace refused to let us die in our sins.

2. GRACE FORGIVES WHAT WE COULD NEVER REPAIR

“…the forgiveness of sins…” (Eph. 1:7)

Forgiveness is not a reward for good behaviour — it is a gift for broken sinners.
Sin makes us wretched, helpless, spiritually bankrupt. We have nothing to present before God that merits salvation.
But grace covers what guilt exposes. Grace says:
“Your past is not your prison. Your mistakes are not the end. My mercy is greater than your sin.”

No one can boast!
No one can say they earned forgiveness!
It is all of grace — from the first step to the last breath.

3. GRACE REVEALS GOD’S PURPOSE FOR OUR LIVES

God’s plan goes beyond saving us from hell — grace ushers us into His purpose.
Paul says God has “abounded toward us in all wisdom and understanding,” making known the mystery of His will.

Grace not only saves us — it aligns us with heaven’s agenda.
It turns rebels into sons, sinners into servants, wanderers into worshippers.

Grace found Paul the persecutor and turned him into Paul the apostle.
Grace found John Newton the slave trader and turned him into a preacher.
What will grace build in your life if you fully surrender to it?

4. GRACE SUSTAINS, EMPOWERS, AND COMPLETES US

Grace is not only the beginning — it is the continuation and the completion of our Christian life.

We are:

Saved by grace

Kept by grace

Strengthened by grace

Transformed by grace

Carried by grace

And finally welcomed home by grace

Grace does not encourage laziness. It empowers holiness.
Grace does not excuse sin. It gives strength to overcome sin.
Grace does not remove responsibility. It enables obedience.

John Newton said:
“The grace that brought us thus far is the grace that will lead us home.”

And that is our confidence!

APPLICATION

1. Stop trying to earn what God has already given.
Receive grace by faith.

2. Let grace rewrite your story.
No matter your past, grace can restore.

3. Rely on grace daily.
Pray, walk, live, and stand by grace alone.

4. Extend grace to others.
The forgiven must become forgivers.

CONCLUSION

The Christian life begins with grace, grows in grace, and ends in grace.
From the cradle of salvation to the gates of heaven, one testimony will remain:

“I am what I am by the grace of God!”
