Petition to Free Former Liberian President Charles Taylor from 50 years in Prison has been launched!!
Petition to Demand the Release of the Unfairly Prosecuted Former Liberian President, Charles G. Taylor
The former President of Liberia, Charles G. Taylor, was sentenced by the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL) in 2012 in what can only be described as a case of selective prosecution. The principles of international justice demand fairness and consistency, yet Taylor was singled out while others who committed similar acts were not held accountable.
The prosecution of former Liberian President Charles Taylor for crimes committed during the Sierra Leone Civil War has been unjust. While the rebel leader Foday Sankoh was primarily responsible, Taylor was only accused of aiding and abetting. It's important to note that other regional leaders who engaged in similar actions were not held accountable, which suggests that Taylor was unfairly singled out. If aiding and abetting is indeed a crime, the punishment should not be as severe as 50 years.
This case highlights a blatant abuse of authority by the international judicial system, which has turned a blind eye to others involved and projected a biased image of justice. If aiding and abetting is a crime, then consistency demands that all others who engaged in similar actions be held to the same standard. Furthermore, life imprisonment is an excessive and disproportionate punishment in this context.
We, the undersigned, call for fairness, accountability, and the release of Charles G. Taylor. Justice must not be selective, and no individual should be used as a scapegoat while others go free. Join us in demanding a more balanced and just international judicial system by signing this petition.

As it stands, Six military personnel have been sentenced to a combined total of over 300 years in prison after being found guilty of subversion against the state and plotting to unseat President Julius Maada Bio. The verdicts were handed down by a Court Martial today, following a trial that commenced on October 17, 2024.
The individuals, led by Major Patrick Abu Ordende Sesay, faced eight counts including mutiny, failure to suppress mutiny, and desertion, to which they initially pleaded "not guilty." After a lengthy trial, the Court Martial, presided over by Judge Advocate Mark Ngegba and Court Martial President Colonel SMO George, found the accused guilty based on evidence presented by the prosecution.
The sentences are as follows:

โข Lieutenant Zainab Amara Suwu (5th Accused): 50 years
โข Corporal Mohamed Koroma (6th Accused): 75 years
The case, formally titled "The State vs Major Patrick Abu Ordende Sesay alias PAO and 5 Others," saw a vigorous prosecution led by a team of 15 lawyers including JAK Sesay, PA Williams from the Law Officersโ Department, and Colonel MBS Kamara from the Directorate of Defence Legal of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF). The prosecution presented 16 witnesses and 47 exhibits to support their claims of a plot to destabilize the government.
The accused were defended by a team of lawyers including I Bangura, S Elleamoh, OV Garber, E Sanders, C Kamara, A Yankay-Kargbo, and JK Kobba. Each accused person testified in their defense, attempting to refute the prosecution's evidence and demonstrate their innocence.

This high-profile case comes amidst heightened political tensions and concerns regarding the stability of the government. The severity of the sentences reflects the gravity with which the government views acts of subversion and mutiny within the armed forces.
In a related development, the Court Martial is scheduled to review evidence tomorrow, February 13, 2025, in the case of "The State vs Major Bai Sesay and 6 Others." This case is reported to be linked to a bloody coup attempt in which 18 security personnel and two civilians were killed.

As the government and police prepare to hold a press conference on the arrest of armed robbers, we propose the following measures to address the rising crime rate:
1. No vehicle should be allowed on the road without a visible number plate, including those belonging to the presidency. Covered or obscured number plates must also be strictly prohibited.
2. The use of tinted windows on vehicles should be banned, even for government officials. What are they trying to hide?
3. The police should introduce a toll-free emergency number that allows the public to report crimes, suspicious activities, and provide intelligence confidentially. Every police station must also have a functional telephone line.

DATE: February 9, 2025
The Gambia Police Force has made significant progress in its investigation into a recent armed robbery in Banjul, leading to the arrests of the suspects and ongoing efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.
A case of armed robbery was reported at the Banjul Police Station involving an attack on El Hella Shop, located on Hegan Street, Banjul, at approximately 09:08 hrs. The complainant, Muhammed Seedy Hydra of Brikama, stated that he had traveled to Banjul with D1,245,000.00 and 1,650,000.00 CFA to purchase goods. Upon arrival, he noticed a BMW, ash in color, with no number plate, parked opposite the shop. Moments after entering, two armed individuals stormed the shop, held him at gunpoint, and forcefully took the cash before fleeing the scene.
Following the robbery, the suspects abandoned the vehicle in Banjul and used a commercial vehicle to escape to Sting Corner, where they divided the stolen money.
Through intensive investigations, police arrested the suspects. Ousainou Jobarteh, an Ivorian national residing in Busumbala, was apprehended in the early morning of Sunday, February 9, 2025. Officers recovered D70,250 and 465,000 CFA from him. During interrogation, he admitted to conspiring with Abdoulie Jallow, a 24-year-old resident of Barra, and used his BMW with registration number BJL 4871B to execute the operation. He further disclosed that Amadou Wurry Jallow, a mechanic, was instructed to drive the vehicle out of Banjul for maintenance and repainting to conceal evidence. The vehicle was later identified and intercepted at Bond Road at about 21:00 hrs.
Later that day, police arrested Abdoulie Jallow along with his girlfriend, Bella James, at Serekunda Villa around 16:30 GMT. During the search, officers recovered D198,000 from Jallow. Additionally, his Wave account contained D24,000, but no CFA currency was recovered from him.
After the operation, the stolen money was divided among the suspects. Ousainou Jobarteh admitted to entrusting D70,250 and 465,000 CFA to his wife, Tida Nyang, while giving her an additional D3,000 for personal use. He further revealed that he handed over D304,000 to Odile Secka, a female resident of Banjul, bringing the total money entrusted to third parties to D377,250 and 465,000 CFA.
In a separate case, authorities in Guinea-Bissau have arrested Ansu Jarju, a Gambian national, in connection with the Access Bank robbery in Brusubi. The suspect has been handed over to The Gambia Police Force through security bilateral, to ensure his prosecution.
Police have recovered fi****ms and other incriminating evidence, further strengthening the case against the arrested individuals. Investigators are working to determine whether the suspects are linked to other armed robberies in the country.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The Gambia Police Force commends its officers for their swift and decisive action and reassures the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order.
