"Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another, be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate, and humble.1Peter3:8

Peter lists five key elements that should characterize any group of believers: 1)harmony - pursuing the same goals, 2)sympathy - being responsive to other's needs, 3)love - seeing and treating each other as brothers and sisters, 4)compassion - being affectionately sensitive and caring, and 5)humility - being willing to encourage one another and rejoice in each other's successes. These five qualities go a long way toward helping believers serve GOD effectively.

"Make room for us in your heart. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have exploited no one." (2Corinthians7:2)

Paul insisted that the Corinthians should open their hearts for him. He knewhow much those in the church need one another. If fellowship was necessary in Paul's day, it is all the more crucial today, when time is more valuable than money. Each day holds barely enough time to care for personal and family needs, let alone to meet the needs of others. Yet the activities that occupy our time are not as important as the community described in these verses. Paul's intention is not "coffee and donuts between church" fellowship. Believers need accountability that comes from lives intertwined by the cords of commitment and love. If you are not in a small group Bible study, take the first steps. Offer hospitality to fellow believers, when others extend the hand of fellowship to you, grasp it enthusiastically.

We often feel that life is a failure unless we're getting a lot out of it: recognition, fun, money, success. But Paul considered life worth nothing unless used it for GOD's work. What he put into life was far more important than what he got out. Which is more important to you - what you get out of life, or what you put into it?...Amen!..

We can hope in what GOD has for us in heaven because we know that our future and salvation are sure (1Peter1:3-4). We are free to live for CHRIST and love others. When you find yourself doubting or wavering in your faith or love, remember your destination - heaven.
