We have no idea how this Vixen got into this situation, but we can tell you how she got out .
Ger O Neill from Limerick called yesterday. He needed a hand to change Jesses on his female Golden Eagle but couldn't find anyone stupid enough to help, so he asked Rosie and Rosie volunteered me because I'm so big , strong, and brave. We got the big lady sorted, and Ger was heading home when
I showed him this video that I got a few minutes earlier. It was near Limerick City, and I thought Ger might know the area and how realistic was a safe rescue. Ger said he would call to the bridge on the way home and let me know.
I had to finish off feeding and cleaning here, but I couldn't stop mithering about the Fox .
Most of the calls we received last year we passed on to local rescue but this was very different and wasn't going to be straightforward with probably just one chance to get it right, around 5 o clock I said to Rosie that we have to give it a go . I was on my way in when Ger rang and said she was still in the same spot and there was a good chance of getting her. I was 30 minutes away, and Ger offered to wait and give me a hand .
When I got there Ger brought me down to have a look at the situation for myself and with just one look I had the perfect solution but Ger didn't like the idea of me lowering him from a bridge with a rope tied around his legs .
Plan B wasn't so straightforward, we couldn't reach with a grab pole so we took the handle off the fishing net and using duct tape joined both poles together, then tied one end of a rope to the grab pole and the other end to the plastic coated cable that closes the loop when pulled.
The Fox was probably down around twenty feet but I was surprised how well we worked together, we had to get the loop at the right height and guide it over the Fox, it was a bit like left 123 , down 123 , up 123 , right 123 , I'm sure it was the first time ever two long haired louts did the Fox trot on a bridge .
It was our first time doing a rescue together ,but we were in harmony, just like arms from a great conductor but playing proper music.
We got her and hoisted her up . She was none the worse after her ordeal, and we can only hope she can stay out of trouble.
  Thanks very much Ger 04/02/2024
