As more revelations emerge about the now infamous Bike Shed fiasco - Independent Ireland Leader Michael Collins demands answers:

Michael Collins TD Demands Accountability for Government Buildings Security Hut Cost Overrun

Independent Ireland leader Michael Collins TD has demanded urgent answers and full accountability following revelations of a staggering cost overrun in the construction of a security hut at Government Buildings. The final bill for the project reached €2.4 million, compared to an initial budget estimate of €768,000—a 212% increase.

Deputy Collins has called for immediate clarity on how such an escalation was allowed to occur, posing critical questions to the Government:

1. Who signed off on this project at each stage?
2. Why is the Department of Agriculture responsible for footing 50% of the costs for this project?
3. Where is the accountability for this excessive spending, especially given the ongoing financial pressures on taxpayers?

Speaking on the issue, Deputy Collins said:

"This is yet another example of gross mismanagement and a complete lack of oversight in government spending. It is beyond belief that a simple security hut which has ballooned into a €2.4 million fiasco, has reared its head once again and yet no one seems to be held accountable. The public deserves to know who signed off on this, why the Department of Agriculture is inexplicably paying half the costs, and what measures are being taken to prevent such waste in the future. We have farmers still fighting to get their TAMs payment and many are struggling to remain viable, and now we have the Department of Agriculture paying half the costs - why?"

Deputy Collins also criticised the lack of transparency in the project’s planning and ex*****on:
"It is deeply concerning that such an overrun could happen without any checks or alarms being raised. At a time when families are struggling with the cost of living, when critical services like housing and healthcare are underfunded, this level of waste is utterly unacceptable. The government must answer for this and ensure that taxpayers money is no longer treated as a blank cheque."

A Call for Greater Oversight
Deputy Collins has reiterated Independent Ireland's commitment to fiscal responsibility and government accountability, emphasizing the need for tighter controls on public spending.

"The message from Independent Ireland is clear: taxpayers' money must be treated with respect. Projects like this security hut should undergo rigorous scrutiny to ensure that budgets are adhered to and that there is transparency at every step. Without accountability, this waste will continue to erode public trust in government institutions, our manifesto proposed a new oversight body - The Department of Efficiency and Reform, with each passing day the requirement for this becomes more and more evident" Deputy Collins concluded.

Independent Ireland is calling for a full inquiry into the management of this project, the decision-making processes involved, and the roles of all departments in funding and overseeing the work. The findings must be made public to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Hi all , haven’t been on for 6 ish months . Retired and out of town and all that .
But life goes on .
Work men / trades hard to get .
Small jobs are an other story .
All I want is a work man who will rip out robes around a double bed . I cant find how to dismantle it . But if he could do a bit of rearranging too ( not necessary ) I’d be truly thrilled . A learner ,, or retired person . A days work at most .. HELP
