The world’s largest bird only has two toes –
unlike most birds, which have four! The claw
on the larger, inner toe can be up to ten
centimeters long. When running at high speed,

Today, we’re taking you to Costa Rica and
northwest Colombia – home to a true
specialist with silent steps: the helmeted
basilisk.
👉 This impressive lizard is nicknamed the
“Jesus Christ lizard” for good reason – it
can run short distances across water! 🌊

How does it do that?
Thanks to its large hind feet with scaly
fringes on the toes.
These spread out
while running on water, increasing the
surface area – and keeping the lizard
afloat. Especially the young ones are true
water sprinters! 🏃♂️💧
