❓Do you know how much is happening on your skin at any time to protect you?

To better illustrate this, let's imagine an uninvited guest, i.e. a pathogen👾 that wants to pe*****te the epidermis, but has to overcome as many as 4 different protective skin barriers:

🛡️SKIN MICROBIOME - a community of millions of different microorganisms that live on the surface of the skin. When these microorganisms are unbalanced (e.g. bad bacteria are in the majority), the pathogen is able to grow, multiply and will be ready to invade.

🛡️ACID COAT - a protective layer consisting of sweat, sebum and lactic acid that maintains the naturally acidic pH of the skin. Pathogens most often thrive in a more neutral pH, so if your skin's pH is higher (e.g. by using the wrong care products or missing a toning step), that's the perfect environment for it!

🛡️CORNE LAYER - It is usually quite difficult to pe*****te, but if the pathogen is lucky and the skin has been deprived of its natural lipids (e.g. by excessive exfoliation), small gaps are created through which it can squeeze deep into the skin.

🛡️IMMUNE SYSTEM - cells of the skin's immune system fight against invasive pathogens by secreting antibacterial peptides, which helps maintain the balance of the skin microbiome. In the vast majority of cases, such cells are able to stop a dangerous invasion, but you will still feel the effects, for example in the form of inflammation, redness or skin irritation.
