Our forearms are one of the most neglected muscles. Yet we use them every single day, whether it be in our jobs, through exercise, or even just the day to day activities that require us to use our fingers and wrists.
Speaking of fingers and wrists.. did you know that these movements are created by the use of the forearm muscles?
When our forearms (wrist flexors and extensors) get tight, they can cause pain in the elbow (tennis/golfers elbow) and even in the wrists. Treating these areas with Sports Massage and Needling can help prevent these issues /injuries from occurring.
Even in a job like mine, this treatment is highly needed... here is a picture of me needling my forearms and thumbs to alleviate the tension built up from massaging clients every day.

Here's how to Treat and Prevent it.
Treatment
▪️Rest, avoid any exercise for the shoulder
▪️Ice area a few times a day
▪️Surgery (for severe cases)
▪️See a Professional Sports Massage Therapist / Physio that will use techniques to ease and reduce tension in the surrounding muscles and teach you how to stretch and strengthen these muscles.
▪️A doctor could prescribe you anti inflammatory medications or even suggest a corticosteroid injection.
Prevention
▪️Increase activity level gradually if you're just beginning /returning
▪️Warm up shoulders BEFORE exercising.
▪️Stretch shoulders AFTER exercising.
▪️Increase strength of your Rotator Cuff Muscles by doing exercises recommended by your therapist.
▪️Avoid repetitive overhead motions
▪️Don't ignore shoulder pain.. get it seen to or treated as soon as possible.

Here, we are stretching the rotator cuff muscles by pulling the scapula. This helps to relieve the tightness between the shoulder blades as well as increase the range of motion around the shoulder, allowing the arm to come further up the back.

The Quadratus Lomborum Muscle or Qls for short are found on either side of the Lumbar spine.
They are important core muscles that help to Stabalise the lower back by connecting the spine to the pelvis.
They assist with movements such as side bending as well as raising the hips.
When the Qls tighten they cause lower back pain, this usually happens due to the glutes being weak and therefore the Qls have to over compensate along with the Tensor Fascia latae (muscles found on the sides of the hips)
