Happy Easter from our little nest to yours 🐣
Lisa & Sarah ❤️
As lactation consultants, one of our FAVORITE things to help parents tune into is the sound of effective feeding ❤️
When your newborn is transferring milk well at the breast, listen for:
👂 A soft, rhythmic suck–swallow pattern
👂 Little “kuh” or gentle gulping sounds after a few sucks
👂 Pauses that show they’re coordinating sucking, swallowing, and breathing
👂 Relaxed, content breathing (not clicking or slipping sounds)
In the early days, these tiny cues can feel easy to miss—but once you hear them, they’re so reassuring.
If you’re ever unsure, trust that support is there for you. You and your baby are learning together, one feed at a time ❤️

At The Perfect Latch, we love helping new parents and babies on their breastfeeding journeys ❤️
We also provide tailored antenatal breastfeeding consultations in the comfort of your own home, our goal being to make you feel as prepared and confident as possible ahead of your baby's arrival.
During our sessions, which usually last about 90 minutes, we cover the essentials, including but not limited to:
💫The basics of how breastfeeding works and the biology of milk production
💫What to expect in the early days, focusing on typical newborn behaviours
💫How to achieve a good latch to avoid discomfort and ensure effective milk transfer
💫Different breastfeeding positions to keep you and baby comfy
💫Signs that baby is getting enough milk
💫Recognizing feeding cues and baby’s hunger signs.
💫The emotional side of nursing for both you and your little one
Our consultations are relaxed and informal – we try not to bombard you with information; we want you to feel comfortable and have the space to ask any questions that come up.
Following the consultation, we always send on any information that we think might be useful, eg, Web pages, YouTube links

There are lots of different ways to latch your baby. The positions you can use are as individual as you and your baby, and there isn't one 'magic' way or method that's going to work for everyone.
We know from research that babies latch better when they are positioned tummy down, and there is close contact between mum and baby.
Achieving this positioning can often be easier if mum and baby get into a more laid-back posture. When you're in the comfort of your own home, we usually suggest that you choose the seat you'd pick if you were going to settle down to watch something good on television. But remember that you can recline in most chairs, using cushions or rolled up blankets to support your lower back.
This type of positioning and latching is often described as 'baby led attachment', 'laid back breastfeeding', or 'natural breastfeeding'. Whatever it's called, it taps into a baby's natural inborn and instinctive behaviour pattern, which leads them to seek the breast and latch on.

During National Breastfeeding Week in Ireland:
🤱 Let's remember that every breastfeeding journey is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach. All breastfeeding experiences should be celebrated, whatever they may look like.
🤱Let's continue to create an environment where breastfeeding is celebrated, normalised, and supported.
🤱 Let's raise awareness, break stigmas, educate, and ensure that every mother has the resources and encouragement she needs on her breastfeeding journey.
