There are extra costs that come along with having a baby and a birth doula and a postpartum doula may be something you can get help with.

1. If a family member asks what they can get for a new mom or baby, suggest a voucher towards the costs of a doula you've hired.
2. Irish Life Health has a postnatal doula benefit available to qualifying members.
3. Employer health schemes often cover fertility care packages and may have a list of pre-approved doula providers and accept receipts for antenatal sessions, birth attendance and home visits in the first 6 weeks postpartum.
4. Families who cannot access private doula support due to financial constraints can seek a volunteer doula. The Doula Association of Ireland Doula Association of Ireland accepts applications to it's hardship fund, where both client & volunteer doula fill in the application together and if feasible the Association makes a contribution to the doula for travel expenses/ associated costs.

If doula care is not accessible or available there are other practical ways to prepare for a baby's arrival. For example: stocking the cupboards or freezer with nutritious meal staples, asking for help around the house, partners taking their paternity leave entitlements.

Time to grieve and recover should not depend on your ability to afford unpaid leave. Yet women experiencing early pregnancy loss can face the pressure of returning to work while coping with its physical and emotional impact.

As we mark the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week, we stand with everyone who has been affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

NWC is reiterating our call for Government to introduce 20 days of paid reproductive health leave for women who experience pregnancy loss before 23 weeks, providing practical support and space without added financial pressure.

Compassion must be backed by action.

Mums don't worry I gotcha at baby massage class.

Come as you are for 1 hr per week. This class is a place to land during the postpartum haze. Meet other new parents who are living the daily rhythms of feed-soothe-settle-repeat and they get where you are coming from, because it's likely they have been there recently, themselves.

I provide the space to learn the art and practice of baby massage and you experience the bonding potential possible with a small group let's by experienced doula and antenatal educator.
