Okay friend, listen up. I’ve had multiple requests for this info, so here it is (yep, she’s a long one)!

Its no secret that I’m crazy passionate about Young Living and it drives me bonkers when I see/hear any misconceptions about oils - specifically YL oils. This is a compilation of info from multiple sources, that I’ve combined and summarized (if you can consider this a summary 😝)

The vast majority of essential oils on the market today are only suitable for cosmetics, flavorings and perfumes. From cheap, to ultra-expensive brands, most companies source essential oils that are produced only for food and fragrance (i.e. not therapeutic)

The reason Young Living’s oils are so different is their unmatched commitment to producing, sourcing and distributing a pure, unadulterated oil. Young Living’s devotion to creating a highly therapeutic product means they’ve invested in their own farms, where they care for and nurture their own plants and finally distill, test, and bottle the oils that arrive on your doorstep.

They also spend a great deal of time and resources traveling the world and building relationships with other growers and distilleries to ensure that any products they buy elsewhere, follow the exact same standards they set on their own farms.

All of the oils that Young Living distributes, come from corporately owned farms, partner farms, certified Sead to Seal suppliers (the people they build a relationship with and help to produce oil to YL standards), or are wild crafted (picked where the plants grow wild)!

I've seen this first hand at their Mona, Utah, St. Maries, Idaho, Highland Flats Tree Farm in Naples, Idaho (my favorite, to date), and the Ecuador farm. Anyone can go visit a YL farm! DO IT (not during a busy time like Convention 😉). It’s an unforgettable experience!

If, at any point in that production process, something doesn’t meet their (very high) standards, they get rid of it. This means that it’s possible that our favorite oils sometimes go out of stock… and we are happy about it! It’s the price we pay to be 100% certain that our oils come from a company that doesn’t crank them out quickly in a lab to make a buck, but waits on the plants to grow (no synthetics) and distillation and testing to all be performed perfectly. They accept nothing less.

No other company owns farms or distilleries. Repeat. NONE.

Let me give you an example of how important it is for a company to know the right time of day to harvest the plant and exactly how long to distill the plant to produce the chemical compounds the plant contains that is therapeutic to our bodies…

Let's take CYPRESS ESSENTIAL OIL, which has 280 known chemical constituents.
- If it is distilled for 20 hours, you only get 20 of the 280 properties.
- If distilled for 26 hours, you get 0 of the properties.
- Most market (food/fragrance)cypress is distilled for 3.5 hours (fast & easy).
*The correct length of time for distilling cypress is 24 hours to get the full 280 properties.

If you want Cypress to do the job it is intended to do, you MUST get ALL 280 constituents, no more, no less. Most people just do not realize essential oils have chemical properties in them and in order to get the full benefit out of that particular oil it has to be grown, harvested, and distilled the correct way or the oil has no benefit to us.

I chose Young Living because of this process, after a lot of research. Yep, I read up on all the heavy-hitters. Trust me, I didn’t want to believe my little sister was right about this one 😂 so I looked for any evidence to prove her wrong!

I started using oils when I wanted fewer toxic ingredients in my home, mostly for my dogs’ health! I’d been reading about how floor cleaners and laundry detergent can affect their liver and kidney health and I knew I had to find products without synthetics, toxins or any unnecessary additives. When I made the change for them, it was only natural that I started looking at what was going on and in my body as well!

But Young Living is more expensive, right? You’re right, often times it is and “you get what you pay for” has never been more true.

Young Living is more expensive than other brands and oils you can find at Whole Foods or on Amazon because of its therapeutic properties (remember the Cypress example from above?). An ever-growing number of marketers have jumped on the essential oils bandwagon, looking for an easy way to make a lot of money. Most of these oils are cheap imitations, purchased wholesale in large quantities, diluted with synthetic additives, and rebottled before being sold to you.

That’s just not okay! We want the best for our families and we don’t want to “save money” short-term only to spend more long-term because we used something that didn’t do what it was supposed to or even harmed us.

Some of the other companies may claim that their oils are organic. Unfortunately, the term “organic” is not regulated by the FDA in regards to essential oils. They do not certify or grade essential oils, so any oil you see making those claims is simply using the word. They did not have to do anything to earn it.

If you cannot walk onto your oil company's farms and watch them distill oils at their very own distilleries, don't use it.

There’s a reason Young Living has been the world leader in essential oils for 29 years!

Here's an amazing example:
At convention a few years ago, they let us know that the week before, Young Living rejected 7,000 kilos of Peppermint because it did not meet their standards. Their state of the art machinery detected one part per billion of mercury in the batch, and sent it right back. For reference, that's equivalent to one drop in an Olympic-sized swimming pool💧

The cost to our company was NOT a factor in the decision. The fact that it had the potential to throw a very crucial and popular oil out of stock did NOT factor into the decision. If it doesn't meet our standards, it doesn't get sold. Period.

I’m guessing that someone else bought the lot of oils that YL rejected 🧐

Young Living runs 15-20 tests on each oil.

Twice.

And we have outside labs who test for us again. They are the same labs used by top criminal investigations teams.

We are the only company who has our own Isotope Ratio Mass Specrometey (IRMS) machine. Actually, we have two. Scientists are trained for TWO YEARS to use it.

We measure the amount of carbon isotope ratios (CIR) in the oils to make sure it matches the CIR in the atmosphere...because our plants get their oils from the atmosphere. So it needs to be the same. Duh. Synthetic oils don't match the atmosphere. And guess what? We don't have any of those 😉🙌🏻

So next time someone says ’any oils are fine’ or ‘just as good as…’ Think again.

I must say that I am feeling very empowered. I am out in the midwest visiting 4 of my grandchildren, and 3 out of 4 are sick. The first night I felt a scratchy throat coming on. I culled information from many people's posts and put together 3 capsules: one filled with oregano and thyme, one with frankincense and longevity, one filled with thieves and peppermint. I took all 3 before going to sleep. In the morning....no more scratchy throat. I continued taking the trio 4 times on Saturday, and Sunday morning woke up feeing perfectly fine. No more "coming down with something" feeling. Then I targeted my oldest grandson, age 7. I put thieves on the bottom of his feet, rubbed RC mixed with V6 on his chest and upper back, then mixed oregano, frankincense, lemon and peppermint in a teaspoon of honey and gave it to him. He stopped coughing, his nose stopped running and he perked up. Now I feel like I have the tools to handle anything that comes along!!!
