CVDs account for nearly **28-30% of all deaths** in India, according to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.

Over **54.5 million Indians**
were affected by CVDs as of 2016, and this number has been rising.
Cardiovascular diseases cause 0.5-1.8 million deaths annually in India (roughly 1 in every 4 deaths),where,
heart attacks and strokes account for the majority of these deaths.
The age of onset for heart diseases in India is often a decade earlier than in Western countries, with many people suffering from heart conditions in their 40s and 50s.
Major contributors to CVDs in India include high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, poor diet, and obesity.
