31 Dec || Tadak Nalo Calls for United Indigenous Stand to Strengthen ILP Safeguards in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: Senior leader Tadak Nalo has strongly emphasized the need for unity among the indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh to collectively fight for stronger constitutional provisions related to the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, which is crucial for safeguarding the state and its people.

Speaking on the ILP issue, Tadak Nalo clarified that the concern is not about opposing the APIO team or any organization engaged in checking ILP violations, particularly around the Capital Complex. Instead, he stressed that the real fight must focus on addressing the root cause of the problem, rather than expending energy only on surface-level enforcement.

Nalo highlighted the importance of understanding the genesis and legal framework of the Inner Line Permit. He pointed out that ILP is governed under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR), 1873, and not under a dedicated Act. This, he said, leaves indigenous communities without complete constitutional security.

He urged all stakeholders to unite as one indigenous community to demand stronger and clearer legal and constitutional protection for ILP, ensuring the long-term safety of Arunachal Pradesh’s demographic, cultural, and social identity.

The statement has drawn attention to the urgent need for policy-level reforms and collective action on the ILP issue, a matter of deep concern for the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
