Enough quality sleep is one of the foundational aspects of not only weight loss, but a better life.
Everything improves when you feel well rested.
And when you're not, life becomes a bit more challenging.
The two biggest restraints on feeling restored are DURATION and QUALITY of sleep.
Stress affects your sleep, and sleep affects your stress, so it can become a nasty circle.
I'm going to give you a quick guide on how to get enough sleep and some strategies to improve its quality.
1️⃣ SET BOUNDARIES- Getting to bed at a decent time in which you can get to 7-8 hours of sleep in critical, by having a sleeping schedule your body well know when it's time to "shut down" for the day and will improve sleep quality.
So knowing what you have to do (see Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less) and what can wait for the next day as a result of prioritizing and delegating is crucial. (I know some things just need to be done and there are so many hours in the day to do them)
2️⃣AVOID BLUE LIGHT 2 HRS BEFORE BED- Blue light emitted by electronic devices such as your TV, phone or laptop interfere with your bodies melatonin release (it tells you it's time to go to bed) and you will stay awake for longer.
You can get a blue light block app, or buy sweet looking glasses like you wore in your high school shop class.
3️⃣NO CAFFEINE PAST 3PM- Caffeine is a stimulant, not something you want when trying to go to bed at a reasonable hour.
Caffeine's half life is 4 hours, so it may be even better to avoid sooner depending on what time lights out is for you.
4️⃣NO ALCOHOL- Alcohol may relax your and "shut down" your brain helping you fall asleep, but it TERRIBLE for sleep quality.
As the alcohol wears off, your brain releases the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate which wakes you up (around 2-3 AM)
Alcohol also prevents you from reaching deep sleep so you will have to sleep longer for the same amount of rest.
5️⃣SLEEPING TEMP. AND LIGHT The best temperature for sleep is between 62-75 degrees, (colder is usually better) but whatever is comfortable for you.
You want your room as dark as possible to prevent any light interference at night.
6️⃣ JOURNAL/WRITE/MEDITATION-Doing a "brain dump" of things you have to do the next day or simply writing down what is on your mind helps clear your subconscious (what can keep us up at night) so you're not going to bed with a racing or anxious mind.
7️⃣SUPPLEMENTS (please consult your physician prior to taking supplements)
Melatonin - 3mg of this helps me fall asleep within 15 minutes of taking, and is not habit forming.
Magnesium Spray- The most bioavailable form and helps relax tight muscles and promotes relaxation.
Valerian root- Helps promote drowsiness, decreases insomnia and has anti anxiety effects.

FOOD RELATION and MODERATION
No food is magic food which can alter the body composition of an individual. What matters is the
quantity we take. The quantity we take is mostly governed by our Food Relationship. So for example
we like Rasgullas, surely we can have it but if our relation with them is a spoilt one, we end up eating
many and finally blame the innocent cute rasgulla for our fat gain and not the quantity which was
governed by our own Food Relation. So for any Body Transformation Regime to work ,we need to
work on our Food Relation Too. This will induce the much required moderation, which would enable
us to have a balanced lifestyle.
