Yoga changes your brain. Not metaphorically, physically, measurably changes it.
Brain scans of regular practitioners show real structural changes. Here’s what happens:
1. Lowers stress response
Yoga reduces cortisol and activates your parasympathetic nervous system. Your body learns to calm down faster and stay calm longer.
2. Increases grey matter
Regular practice grows grey matter in areas responsible for memory, learning, and emotional regulation. Better focus. Clearer thinking. More emotional balance.
3. Boosts brain chemistry
Yoga increases GABA (reduces anxiety) and releases endorphins. Natural mood lift. Less anxious thoughts. Better mental clarity.
4. Trains your nervous system
The combination of breath and movement teaches your brain to shift from “fight or flight” to “rest and digest.” You become calmer—not just on the mat, but in daily life.
This is why yoga feels different from other workouts. You’re not just moving your body. You’re training your brain to respond to life differently.
That’s the real transformation.

“Should I do yoga or go to the gym?”
The gym builds muscle, strength, and power. It’s great for physique, performance, and external results. High intensity. Targeted work.
Yoga builds functional strength, flexibility, and body awareness. It’s great for mobility, balance, and how your body feels from the inside. Full-body integration.
The real difference?
Gym = How your body performs
Yoga = How your body functions
Both make you stronger. Both require discipline. Both transform you, just in different ways.
So the real question isn’t “which is better?” It’s “what does my body need?”
Need power? Gym.
Need mobility and calm? Yoga.
Want both? Do both.
Choose what serves you.

On World Diabetes Day, let’s talk about how yoga can support diabetes management. 💙
First - yoga is not a cure. It’s not a replacement for medication or medical care.
But research shows it can be a valuable support tool.
Here’s how yoga helps:
Stress reduction - Chronic stress raises cortisol, which directly affects blood sugar levels. Yoga calms your nervous system and helps regulate stress hormones.
Improved insulin sensitivity - Regular, gentle movement helps your body use insulin more effectively. Yoga combines movement with breathwork for metabolic support.
Better circulation & overall health - Yoga improves blood flow, supports healthy weight management, and strengthens your body, all important factors in managing diabetes long-term.
The key? Consistency over intensity. Gentle flows, restorative poses, breathwork, and meditation all help. You don’t need intense workouts.
If you’re living with diabetes or prediabetes, yoga can be one part of your overall care plan—alongside medication, nutrition, and regular medical checkups.
Always consult your doctor before starting any new practice.
💙 To everyone managing diabetes: you’re doing important work every day. We see you.

Today I presented a paper in the Inter conference On Prana and Pranayama organized by Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram Chennai. My topic was " Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama-
It's Types as per HathaTatvaKaumudi and it's uniqueness and relevance in the context of Hatha Yoga Pradipika Gheranda Samhita and Shiv Samhita.
My observations are:
There are seven types of Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama- not just one type.
Why seven types?
Role of Right nostril breathing and left nostril breathing .
This can be incorporated in evidence based studies

Today's talk was on Antaranga and Bahiranga Yoga mentioned in Patanjali Yoga Sutra. In today's time where only Asana and Pranayama are popular and Yama and Niyama which we can say the roots of Yoga have been completely forgotten. In fact Yama and Niyama are the basics on which not only Yogic Science but Indian ethos, societal structure is completely based on it.
There is a need to understand these Yamas and Niyamas in today's context to make the Yoga Practices more clear.

Patanjali Yoga Sutra is known as an Indian Psychology which talks about Mind its various facets and means to pacify the mind. Asana and Pranayama are the two effective tools to calm down the mind. Maharshi Patanjali did not elaborate on the Methods of Asana and Pranayama but specified the parameters of how one is supposed to be in that particular Asana or Pranayama. That's why it is Yogasana otherwise it will restrict itself to physical exercises.
