Happy Onam from the Mathews

Every image I upload on social media has a reason or a story that tells more about me, what I love and what I feel…
The Temple Jewelry I wore for Onam shoot is something that invokes the child in me… Being a bharatnatyam dancer as a kid I used always love wearing Temple Jewellery. It plays a sacred role in my life. These pieces of jewelry invokes a sense of divine presence every time I wear and perform in them. The jewelry goes beyond just embellishment and looking pretty…. It not only adds to the beauty of the dance but also to brings out the emotions associated with the history of the art form…. When I wear the jewelry, I am transported to the era of the dancing hereditary dancers, the devadasis to whom we owe the art we practice…. I am taken back to the temples, the history, the divinity and the spirituality associated with dance in India 🇮🇳

While growing up I had build a collection of Barbie dolls. My sister and I used to play, create new closet’s and even captured movies and songs with our cam corder. The mermaid Barbie and doctor Barbie were my favorites.
I saw Barbie as an aspirational figure — and grew up admiring the doll’s freedom, confidence, globe-trotting lifestyle and even her arched feet in sassy stilettos.
The other side I feel Barbies body doesn’t represent real women with blond hair, blue eyes, perfect breasts.. real women are just perfectly imperfect… and that’s the real beauty 💖
After being trained in bharatnatyam and mohiniyattam for 12years at the age of 30 I started learning Kathak under Guru Pali Chandra, Ritika mam, Somna mam, Dhanashree mam and Payel mam.
Thank you to my Guru and to my teachers who helped me to do rigorous practice and helped me learn this art of grace.
Happy Guru Purnima! I want to express my gratitude and respect to all the teachers who have inspired me and instilled a love of learning in me on the occasion of Guru Purnima 🙏

Guru Pranamam
My first guru of dance Kalamandalam Soumya Raghunandan. I was 3years when she became my guru.
She introduced me to the world of Indian classical dance and India’s heritage and culture that have rooted deep in my heart. She taught me the Guru-shishya tradition…. in Indian classical dance the guru is equivalent to god.
She helped me find purpose in life and to achieve the final goal of self-enlightenment. She is been a mentor who shared her wisdom and helped me find meaning in life.
I express my sincere gratitude to her on Guru Purnima🙏

In my career as a doctor I was privileged to work in the Slum clinics it was emotionally challenging and physically draining but uplifting due to the resourcefulness and spirit of the local people. I really loved going to work every single day because I felt I was wanted, and me being there could save lives…
Many came with serious conditions and infections often preventable with vaccinations, improved infrastructure and more knowledge about hygiene and maternal and neonatal care…. Children especially, were dying unnecessarily and in droves. Babies came with tetanus after home deliveries, gastroenteritis from water-borne disease and even measles. Some of those deaths still haunt me – and have been motivating forces in my career spent pushing for advances in public healthcare in India.
Today on National Doctors Day, I express my
deepest gratitude to the dedicated healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to save lives and provide compassionate care. Thank you for your unwavering commitment!
