In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the ACCENTUATE Makeup and Hair Academy conducted a two-day beauty, hairstyling, and makeup workshop for inmates of the District Jail, Shillong, aiming to blend rehabilitation with skill empowerment.

The workshop, organized by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), offered hands-on training to 30 inmates — both male and female — in makeup artistry, hairstyling, and grooming.

Deputy Commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah lauded the effort, highlighting that the initiative seeks to equip inmates with employable skills that can help them rebuild their lives after release.

Sessions were led by Badap Hynniewta, Educator and Founder of ACCENTUATE Academy, along with his team, who emphasized that beauty skills not only create job opportunities but also restore self-confidence and dignity.

The initiative reflects how rehabilitation through skill development can pave the way for second chances and self-reliance.

• A two-day Beauty, Hairstyling, and Makeup Workshop was recently held for inmates of the District Jail, Shillong, aiming to equip them with practical vocational skills for rehabilitation and future employment.

The initiative, organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, and the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), in collaboration with ACCENTUATE Makeup and Hair Academy, took place on 4 and 5 November.

Deputy Commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah, IAS, graced the event and commended the effort to promote skill development among inmates. The sessions were led by Badap Hynniewta, educator and founder of Accentuate Academy, along with his professional team, who provided demonstrations and hands-on training in beauty techniques, hairstyling, and makeup artistry.

Around 30 inmates, both men and women, participated enthusiastically. The workshop was well received, with organisers highlighting that such training not only builds confidence but also creates pathways for sustainable livelihoods in the beauty industry.
