It's today and yet another day for us to shout, proclaim and declare our commitment to the which we all are good at. While I appreciate and welcome the enthusiasm and intent, the saddest part is that most of these efforts turn out to be futile and short lived and helps us get some applauds just for a day. Planting a Tree sapling seems to be most hottest things and in a matter of few hours FB will be bombarded with Tree Planting Selfies and Groupfies which is fine..but what happens to that sapling over the next few days...is what we should be more concerned with. Those of us who plant the trees today and take the selfie, should be willing to take another selfie in a months time with the same plant...genuinely....How many can ???? So let us think of being more meaningful.

1 Crore saplings being planted today by the Kerala State Govt. fantastic indeed. Reason enough to get some claps and cheers.
But seriously....are we kidding???
Out of this 1 Crore will the Govt be able to ensure that at least 1 Lakh survive??
What is the mechanism to ensure the further growth. I would be happy to be proven wrong here. What happens to the rest of the saplings which are delivered a premature death..isn't that a crime too? The same day next year...will the authorities be able to openly give a status of the 1 Crore trees planted. Yes there needs to be an audit as well which I hope this Govt would introduce.

Everyday can be your Environment day..and contributions can be made non stop. June 5th is just another day.... Let's act meaningul.

DEPRESSION: LET'S TALK.....!!!

What you can do if you think you are depressed:
Talk to someone you trust, about your feelings.
Keep up with activities that you used to enjoy previously, when you were well.
Keep in contact with family and friends.
Stick to regular eating and sleeping habits.
Exercise regularly, even if it’s just a short walk.
Avoid or restrict alcohol intake and do not use illicit drugs.
Seek professional help; remember that with the right help, you can get better.
If you feel suicidal, contact someone for help immediately.
Depression is one of the priority conditions covered by WHO’s Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP). The Programme aims to help countries increase services for people with mental, neurological and substance use disorders, through care provided by health workers who are not specialists in mental health. The Programme asserts that with proper care, psychosocial assistance and medication, tens of millions of people with mental disorders, including depression, could begin to lead normal lives – even where resources are scarce.
So this year, take some time to spread the word about how you and your neighbours can improve the world’s health, on World Health Day!
