She eventually hired a manager for her local operations but it became too demanding balancing family life and business and eventually downsized. She started a salon in Atlanta at which point she noticed that many of her clients suffered from alopecia (hair loss) and decided to further her education specializing in that field. Several determining factors popped up including improper diet, medication, hair follicle strain from braids but the main causes were from cancer treatment and stress. Monica decided to go a step further by developing her own line of products specifically suited to African hair using natural products and remedies. She collaborates with colleagues in the industry for quality control to ensure her clients get the best treatment for their condition possible. Monica Shakespeare has been featured in several Jamaican publications and her client roster reads like a who’s who of celebrity.
