Tips for hiring a makeup artist for your big day.

1. Ask for a pre- consultation. These are usually free and are mutually beneficial as your artist will know your skin type, tone etc., and you will get a chance to see him/ her in action.

2. Use your own stuff. Most makeup artists will use your makeup, at his/ her discretion, however listen to the advice of your artist as they might see what you don't, for instance that shade of foundation may be too dark for you even though you love it so much.

3. Match artist to your style of makeup. When seeking a makeup artist keep in mind that every artist has a style. Some may prefer the drama with the eyebrows, etc., some may prefer a more natural looking style that's more red carpet than others.

4. Don't be afraid to ask for qualifications. I am well aware that there are many out there who can do makeup but don't have the proper training. A trained artist knows how different products and environment can affect your skin, they are trained in proper care and maintenance of their tools, as well as how to handle certain skin conditions, which may or may not be known to the client.

5. Be watchful. Your artist should never use dirty tools on your skin. Ask him/ her about their care routine and take note to see if they take extra precaution to use clean tools and clean up between clients ( incase they're doing a group).

6. Recommendations from others will often go along way when hiring an artist. Often it's not just about their body of work but their knowledge base and people skills can also add to your selection criteria.

Beauty on a budget!!! Yes it's possible, yes in Jamaica. Here are a few places I go for great Makeup shopping on a budget.

Clock Tower Plaza/ Beauty Wholesales Down Town Kingston- You can get everything in these beauty wholesales on a die. Be sure to look around and look carefully. I find that they mostly carry the products I'm looking for, however the employees might not know it's name, or call it something different. They display everything so look carefully and trust me they have it... yes even eyebrow stencils, the good moisturizers, and the good foundations too.

Pharmacies- While most are pricey, there a a few that I go to for stuff like my go to, Brown and Beautiful moisturizer by Naturelle. Pharmacies such as Fontana Pharmacy in Barbican and Chesterville Pharmacy and Beauty Supplies Ltd. have a wide selection of makeup brands to choose from, and an associate who's ready to assist you.

Bh Cosmetics- http://www.bhcosmetics.com/- ships to Jamaica and they have great palettes for great prices. Their palettes are similar to those found on DHGate and AliExpress ( who also ship to Jamaica), however I found it easier to shop on their website.

The general rule is, your eyebrows should match your face shape
(diagram below). As it relates to the thickness of your eyebrows, generally the thinner your body type is the the thinner your eyebrows can be, however this is solely at your own discretion ( be sure to ask one brutally honest friend how it looks before you set foot outside though. lol). The second diagram shows you how to make the perfect arch for your face as well as where your eyebrows should start and stop.

Here's a great tip for taking makeup all the way off. If you're like me who loves makeup but after a hard day at work are too tired to ensure your makeup comes all the way off you can try this great little remedy I discovered. AFRICAN BLACK SOAP! In its purest form ( you know the one that looks brown not actually black) one little wash can take your makeup all the way off. If you don't believe me do it and try the white towel test.

Eggs are great, packed with proteins that are not only good for eating but also great for your skin. Here's a great recipe for an eggwhite mask that can be used by persons with acne.

Whisk the white of 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of lemon/ or lime juice and 1/2 teaspoon of honey. Put the mixture on your face for about 5- 10 minutes then wash it off with some cold water. This can be done 1 or 2 times a week to help minimize the effects of acne. And that's EGGCELLENT!!!
