Healthy Lifestyle Habits
In this book, I will be sharing various natural remedies one can use to deal with hyperpigmentation and thus brighten or lighten the skin. This will assist you to attain well-toned skin that is healthy, bright, youthful and glowing.
But before then, let us see a few healthy life habits that will change your skin positively if followed to the letter:
1. Eat a healthy diet
Consider eating a well-mixed diet. Anything you eat is as vital as the natural remedies products that you put on your skin. As you take care of your skin, think about your inner health improvement and this will give you a clear complexion with no much effort.
1. Don’t be stressed
Skin researchers came up with the conclusion that stress increases the quantity of sebum. Sebum is the oily substance that blocks pores which in turn causes acne. Less stress leads to clearer skin less strained skin.
1. Your skin should be always moisturized
When it comes to moisturizers, choose a facial cream that is compatible with your skin type and the atmosphere around you. Dry skin will require moistures that contain jojoba, aloe vera, bio-oil, almond etc. Skin moisturizers have the advantage of keeping the top layer of your skin cells hydrated and moisture-sealed into your skin. Moisturizers usually attract moisture that keeps smooth the spaces between skin cells.
Drinking lots of water is key and cannot be ignored if you want to attain smooth, flawless skin.
1. Quit smoking
Smoking is dangerous and an enemy of beauty in that it narrows the blood vessels on the outer layer of your skin, which in turn reduces blood flow and denies the skin of the nutrients and oxygen it requires to look and feel healthy. Collagen and elastin provide the skin with strength and elasticity. Smoking usually reduces the natural elasticity of your skin by causing the interruption of collagen and its production.
1. Get enough beauty sleep
Make it a habit to sleep as the beauty queen you are. Beauty sleep will remove the dark circles around your eyes and tone your skin to a better shade that will make people admire you. Your body is repaired extensively during deep sleep, and this regenerates muscles, skin, blood and brain cells. Without enough sleep, your body is will not be able to produce new collagen which prevents sagging skin.

WHAT IS HYPERPIGMENTATION
Hyperpigmentation is gotten when one's skin gets patches that become darker likened to the rest of the body. Its main cause is melanin which is the natural pigment that gives our eyes, hair and skin their natural colour.
The various types of hyperpigmentation include; age spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. They are discussed as below;
• Age Spots: They are also known as solar lentigines or liver spots. The symptoms include having black spots on the skin when one’s skin is overexposed to the sun or a brown tan. They are common on the face or hands and mainly appear in older adults.
• Melasma: They are also known as the mask of pregnancy or chloasma. They usually appear as large patches or circles of darkened skin. They usually appear on the face especially the forehead and the stomach. The people most prone to melasma are pregnant ladies, those taking birth control pills and those with darker skin.
• Post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation: This is also known as Psoriasis or Atopic Dermatitis. They form dark spots or patches that are seen mostly on the neck or face after one has had an inflammatory skin condition such as eczema or acne. Another reason that may cause the patches to appear is after a skin injury or inflammation such as burns, chemical exposure or cuts.
CAUSES OF HYPERPIGMENTATION
1. Sun exposure: This is the main cause of hyperpigmentation. This is because sunlight is the element that triggers the manufacturing of melanin. Melanin is our skin’s natural sunscreen that protects our skin from harmful Ultra Violet rays that make us tan in the sun. But when these rays are in excess, this then disrupts the melanin production process, leading to hyperpigmentation.
2. Ageing: As the skin ages, the number of melanin-producing cells, melanocytes, decreases in number but the ones remaining tend to increase in size and their distribution tend to be more focused. These physiological changes increase age spots in especially those people who are over 40 years old.
3. Hormonal influences: Hormonal imbalance is the main cause of hyperpigmentation known as melasma or chloasma. This one is very common among women and is occurs when the female s*x hormones estrogen and progesterone fuel the overproduction of melanin when skin is exposed to the sun. It can also be as a result of a side effect of certain hormone treatments.
4. Skin injuries and inflammation; This occurs after someone has had a skin injury or inflammation which can be summarized as burns cuts, skin dermatitis, chemical exposure, cuts, or acne. The effect is that the skin is left dark and discoloured after the wound has even long healed.
5. Hyperpigmentation is also symptomatic of certain autoimmune and gastrointestinal diseases, as well as metabolic disorders and vitamin deficiencies. Some diseases such as Addison’s disease usually affects the adrenal glands and exhibits such symptoms as the folding of the skin and lips and disfiguring of the knees, elbows and cheeks.
6. This can also be triggered by certain medications or vaccines such as antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, antimalarial and anti-seizure drugs.
