6 DIFFERENT LIPS INFECTION 👄⚠️

Lip infections are common conditions that affect the lips and surrounding areas. They can cause pain, swelling, dryness, and discomfort. Knowing the types and their causes helps in prevention and early treatment.
1. Cold Sore (Herpes Labialis) 😬
Caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1).
Spreads through kissing, sharing items, or direct contact with an infected person. It appears as small fluid-filled blisters around the lips.
2. Angular Cheilitis 😣
Caused by fungal or bacterial infection.
Often linked to saliva buildup, vitamin deficiency, or dry skin. It leads to cracks and redness at the corners of the mouth.
3. Cheilitis (Lip Inflammation) ⚠️
Caused by allergy or irritation.
Triggers include cosmetics, weather changes, lip licking, or certain foods. Lips become dry, swollen, and painful.
4. Impetigo (Lip Infection) 😨
Caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus or Streptococcus.
Highly contagious and results in red sores that form honey-colored crusts.
5. Fungal Cheilitis 🦠
Caused by Candida overgrowth.
More common in people with weak immunity, diabetes, or poor oral hygiene. It causes redness, scaling, and burning lips.
6. Bacterial Lip Infection (Folliculitis) 😖
Caused by bacterial infection of hair follicles around the lips.
Often due to poor hygiene, sharing lip products, or weakened immunity. It appears as small painful bumps or pustules.

Why Women Get More UTIs
Ever wondered why urinary tract infections are more common in women? The answer largely comes down to anatomy.
Shorter urethra means faster infection
In women, the urethra is about 4 cm long, which creates a much shorter path for bacteria to reach the bladder. In men, the urethra is much longer, around 20 cm, making it harder for bacteria to travel that distance.
Closer to bacteria sources
The female urethral opening is located closer to the a**s, where bacteria such as E. coli are commonly found. This shorter distance makes it easier for bacteria to enter the urinary tract.
Men have more natural protection
Men benefit from a longer urethra, and the prostate gland also provides some additional protection against infections.
How to reduce your risk
Drink plenty of water
Wipe from front to back
Urinate after intimacy
Change underwear regularly
Avoid holding urine for long periods
It is not about hygiene or luck. It is mainly about anatomy. However, with the right habits, UTIs can often be prevented.

MASTITIS 👎🏻
is inflammation of the breast due to a bacterial infection! It can occur at any time during lactation, but typically occurs in the first two to three weeks post delivery. It is caused by bacteria entering the breast through the milk ducts.
Common symptoms of mastitis include PAIN, heat and swelling in the effected breast, tender underarm lymph nodes, elevated temperature and flu-like symptoms. In summary, feeling awful. 🤒

Interventions to combat this terribly uncomfortable condition:

✍️ good hand hygiene and breast hygiene so you are not bringing more bacteria to the breast
✍️ heat or cold packs (depending on the prescribers recommendation)
✍️ pumping every 3-4 hours or breastfeeding if able to prevent plugged ducts, engorgement and speed up recovery
✍️ wearing a supportive bra without underwire
✍️ pain medication and prescribed antibiotics for clear up the infection

Take the antibiotics exactly as indicated by your provider. Take it for the exact amount of days provided, don’t stop taking your antibiotics just because you feel better. Often people don’t take the full antibiotic treatment for the prescribed days, so the infection is not completely gone (even if they feel better), and a resurgence of the infection can occur!
