In 2023, Youma’s Beauty Founders Moussa and Youma Niangadou dedicated their summer to promoting inclusive hair education in Cosmetology Schools. Their goal was to integrate inclusive hair education into Cosmetology School curriculums through their natural hair sensitivity and technical training workshop. This was well received by the Students who saw this skill as an advantage for their future careers. To make this initiative a reality, the Founders contacted Congresswoman Velasquez’s office, which led to them co-creating The Texture Positive Act authorizing this inclusive hair education.
This legislative advancement is opening the door of opportunity for Black-led businesses, like Youma’s Beauty, to play an important role in educating future cosmetology professionals. Moussa and Youma see this as the realization of a dream and express their gratitude for this significant breakthrough, which they attribute to God. Youma’s Beauty is committed to continuing to fight natural hair discrimination globally, with upcoming projects in Africa.
The founders hope that Congress will further support the Texture Positive Act, which embodies their desire to promote positive and inclusive change in the cosmetology industry. They want to highlight hair diversity and provide students with the tools necessary to succeed professionally.
