Your Tight Psoas & Diaphragm May Be Causing More Than You Think

Do you struggle with bloating, stomach tightness, lower back pain, shallow breathing, or feeling constantly stressed?

Sometimes, the source of these symptoms may not be your stomach alone.

The diaphragm is your main breathing muscle, and the psoas is a deep core muscle that connects your lower spine to your hips. These structures work closely together through the body’s connective tissue (fascia) and help support breathing, posture, movement, and core stability.

When they become tight or restricted, they can place extra tension on surrounding muscles and reduce normal movement. In some people, this may contribute to a variety of symptoms.

Common Signs of Diaphragm & Psoas Restriction

✓ Feeling of bloating or abdominal pressure
✓ Tightness or tension in the stomach area
✓ Lower back pain or hip stiffness
✓ Difficulty taking a full, deep breath
✓ Neck, shoulder, or jaw tension
✓ Feeling stressed, tense, or “stuck” in a constant state of alertness
✓ Digestive discomfort or a feeling of sluggish digestion

Why Does This Happen?

Every time you breathe, your diaphragm moves up and down while your psoas helps stabilize your spine and pelvis. If one becomes tight, the other often has to compensate.

This may lead to:

Reduced movement of the rib cage and abdomen.
Increased tension through the lower back and hips.
Shallow breathing, which can make the body feel more stressed.
Extra pressure around the abdomen, making bloating or tightness feel worse.

A Whole-Body Approach

At Farah Massage Therapy, we don’t focus only on where the discomfort is felt. We assess the body as a whole.

Using gentle manual therapy, myofascial release, breathing techniques, and movement-based treatment, we aim to:
Improve diaphragm mobility.
Release tension in the psoas and surrounding muscles.
Restore healthy fascial movement.
Support better posture and breathing.
Help the nervous system relax.
Encourage better overall movement and comfort.

Sometimes, the stomach isn’t the main problem—it may be the muscles and connective tissues surrounding it that need attention.

Please note: Persistent or severe bloating, abdominal pain, digestive symptoms, or breathing difficulties should always be assessed by a healthcare professional, as they can have many possible causes.

Most fertility plans treat the body like a machine… yours is a garden.

A machine is repaired by replacing a broken part. If something doesn’t work, you fix or replace it.

Your reproductive system is different. It is a living, interconnected system. Your hormones, circulation, nutrition, stress levels, sleep, digestion, inflammation, and overall health all influence one another. Rather than looking at one symptom in isolation, we look at the whole body and create the conditions that allow it to function at its best.

Fix the part. Boost the number. Override the system.

Many fertility journeys become focused only on numbers, medications, or one diagnosis.

But fertility is often influenced by many factors working together. Conditions such as:

PCOS
Endometriosis
A thin uterine lining
Poor circulation to the reproductive organs
Hormonal imbalances
Chronic inflammation
Nutrient deficiencies
Stress
Digestive issues
Blood sugar imbalance

All affect how the body functions. Looking after the whole body means supporting each of these areas instead of concentrating on just one.

A garden does not respond to force.

You cannot make a seed grow by pulling on it.

Your body also responds better to support than pressure. Fertility flourishes when the body feels nourished, balanced and cared for rather than constantly pushed.

Gardens need nutrient-rich soil.

The soil is your foundation.

For your body, this means:

Nourishing whole foods
Minerals and vitamins
Healthy digestion
Balanced blood sugar
Warm, nourishing meals
Foods that support healthy hormone production

Just as plants cannot thrive in depleted soil, your reproductive system needs a healthy foundation to function optimally.

Gardens need adequate moisture.

Water represents healthy circulation.

Good circulation helps deliver oxygen and nutrients throughout the body, including to the uterus and ovaries. Healthy blood flow also supports the growth and nourishment of the uterine lining, which plays an important role in preparing the body for implantation.

Gardens need natural light.

Light represents everything that brings life to your body:

Sunlight
Joy
Meaning
Connection
Laughter
Gentle movement
A peaceful mind

These are all part of creating an internal environment where the body feels safe and supported.

Gardens need rest.

The earth cannot produce continuously without time to recover.

Your body also needs:

Deep sleep
Rest
Recovery
Quiet moments
Time to restore its energy

Rest allows the body to repair, rebalance and prepare for new growth.

Gardens are tended, not forced.

Healthy gardens are built through consistent care.

Small daily habits make the greatest difference:

Nourishing meals
Hydration
Gentle movement
Rest
Managing stress
Supporting healthy circulation
Looking after your hormones

These daily acts of care gradually create a healthier environment for fertility.

Your body has its own intelligence.

Your body already knows how to ovulate, build a uterine lining, regulate hormones and prepare for pregnancy.

Sometimes conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis, hormonal imbalance, inflammation, poor circulation, or a thin uterine lining can make those natural processes more difficult. The goal is to support the body by improving the environment in which these processes take place, allowing it to function more effectively.

Create the environment where life can take root.

Your job is not to fight your body.

Your job is to nourish it.

To improve circulation.
To reduce inflammation.
To support hormonal balance.
To nourish your uterine lining.
To strengthen your overall health.

When you care for the whole body with patience and consistency, you create the best possible environment for fertility to flourish.

Like a well-tended garden, your body responds to the conditions you create every day. Every nourishing meal, every hour of sleep, every moment of rest, every step you take to improve your health is another seed planted in fertile ground.

Understanding Fertility Massage

Fertility Massage is a gentle, holistic therapy designed to support women’s reproductive and pelvic health. It is beneficial for every woman, whether preparing for conception or simply nurturing her reproductive wellness. By improving circulation and encouraging balance throughout the body, fertility massage creates an environment that supports optimal reproductive function.

Supporting overall reproductive health and fertility.

How Fertility Massage Provides Support

Blocked Fallopian Tubes

Fertility massage supports healthy circulation, encourages mobility within the pelvic tissues, and promotes an optimal environment for reproductive function.

Endometriosis

By improving circulation and reducing pelvic tension, fertility massage helps support comfort, flexibility, and overall pelvic wellbeing.

PCOS

Fertility massage supports healthy blood flow, hormonal balance, and relaxation while encouraging optimal ovarian and uterine function.

Unexplained Infertility

Fertility massage nurtures the whole body by supporting circulation, reducing stress, balancing the reproductive system, and creating healthy conditions that encourage fertility.

Ovarian Cysts

Fertility massage supports healthy pelvic circulation, relaxation, and natural reproductive balance while encouraging overall ovarian health.

Why Fertility Massage Should Be Performed by a Professional

Fertility massage should always be performed by a trained and experienced fertility massage therapist. The reproductive organs and pelvic area are delicate and highly sensitive, requiring specialised knowledge of female anatomy and safe, effective techniques.

A professional therapist understands the anatomy of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, intestines, ligaments, muscles, blood vessels, and surrounding pelvic structures. Every treatment is adapted to the woman’s individual needs, menstrual cycle, fertility goals, and overall reproductive health.

Using the correct pressure, direction, rhythm, and specialised techniques is essential to encourage healthy circulation, improve pelvic mobility, support lymphatic drainage, reduce tension, and promote relaxation without placing unnecessary strain on sensitive tissues.

Professional fertility massage also includes assessing the body as a whole, recognising areas of restriction, congestion, and imbalance, and providing a personalised treatment that supports the body’s natural ability to restore balance and reproductive wellness.

A Whole-Body Approach to Fertility

Fertility is influenced by many interconnected factors, including circulation, hormones, nutrition, digestion, sleep, stress, movement, and emotional wellbeing. Fertility massage supports the body as a whole, helping create the healthiest possible environment for reproductive wellness and fertility.

Treating the Root Cause: A Holistic Approach

At Farah Massage Therapy, we believe that lasting improvements begin by addressing the root causes that may be affecting reproductive health rather than simply focusing on symptoms.

Fertility massage works best as part of a holistic approach that combines specialised fertility massage with natural remedies and healthy lifestyle practices. Together, these support the body’s natural ability to restore balance, improve circulation, encourage hormonal harmony, reduce inflammation, nourish the reproductive organs, and optimise overall wellbeing.

Every woman’s fertility journey is unique. By identifying areas of imbalance and supporting the body through personalised fertility massage, nutrition, natural remedies, stress management, and healthy daily habits, we aim to create the healthiest possible foundation for reproductive wellness.

When the body is nourished, balanced, and functioning at its best, it is better able to support healthy reproductive function. Our goal is to help every woman restore balance naturally while supporting her fertility and overall health.

At Farah Massage Therapy, we believe the body has an incredible ability to heal and restore balance when given the right support. Our fertility massage treatments are designed to nurture the whole woman—not just the reproductive organs—helping to improve circulation, encourage hormonal balance, reduce stress, and create the best possible environment for reproductive health and fertility.

Do You Need a Pillow Under Your Hips After S*x to Get Pregnant?

Many women are told to put a pillow under their hips, raise their legs, or stay upside down after s*x to help s***m reach the egg.

The idea is that gravity will help s***m travel upwards towards the uterus.

It sounds reasonable, but that’s not how conception works.

What Actually Happens After Ej*******on?
S***m are incredibly small and highly specialized cells designed to move on their own.

Within minutes of ej*******on, thousands of s***m begin swimming through the cervical mucus and into the reproductive tract. They do not rely on gravity to reach the egg.

In fact, s***m can swim against gravity. If they couldn’t, conception would be much more difficult.

Why Does Fluid Leak Out Afterwards? I got this question often.
Many women become worried when they stand up and notice fluid coming out.

They assume that all the s***m have been lost.

This is not what is happening.

A typical ej*******on contains millions of s***m mixed within semen. Once ej*******on occurs, many s***m have already started their journey towards the cervix. The fluid that leaks out afterwards is mostly semen and normal va**nal secretions.

Seeing fluid come out does not mean conception cannot occur.

There is no strong evidence that putting a pillow under your hips significantly increases pregnancy rates.
For most couples trying naturally, there is no need to elevate the hips or keep the legs raised.

What Has a Much Bigger Impact on Pregnancy?
Treat the Cause, Not Just the Symptoms

If you’re struggling to conceive, focus on understanding what may be affecting your fertility.

ovulation or PCOS
Endometriosis
Thin uterine lining
Hormonal imbalances
Thyroid issues
Insulin resistance
Poor s***m health
Chronic inflammation
Nutrient deficiencies

✔ Having in*******se during the fertile window

✔ Ovulating regularly

✔ Healthy s***m production

✔ Good egg quality

✔ Balanced hormones

✔ Healthy cervical mucus

✔ Managing stress and supporting overall health

These factors influence fertility far more than any position after s*x.

The Real Message
Pregnancy is not determined by what you do in the 10 minutes after in*******se.

It is influenced by what is happening throughout the entire menstrual cycle how well you ovulate, the health of the egg and s***m, hormone balance and timing.

A pillow under your hips is unlikely to make the difference.

Understanding your fertility and supporting your body is far more powerful than any fertility myth.

Important note:
If lying down for 10–15 minutes after s*x helps you feel relaxed and reduces anxiety, there’s no harm in doing so. Just don’t feel that you’ve “ruined your chances” if you get up, go to the bathroom, or notice fluid leaking afterwards. Many healthy pregnancies occur without any special position after s*x.

At Farah Massage Therapy, we focus on supporting the factors that may affect fertility not on s*x positions or fertility myths.

We look at the whole person and the possible underlying challenges that may be impacting reproductive health

Rather than concentrating on positions after s*x to conceive, we focus on helping clients better understand their bodies and support their overall well-being.

Because improving fertility starts with addressing the root causes, not relying on myths.

WHY DOES THE
Va**na Smell
Bad?

A va**nal odor can feel worrying but it’s actually quite common and not always a sign of a serious problem. The va**na has a natural scent that can change slightly throughout your cycle. However, a strong, unpleasant or unusual smell can indicate an imbalance or infection.

4 important reasons every woman should know:

1. Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)

This is one of the most common causes of a strong va**nal odor.

Caused by an imbalance of “good” and “bad” bacteria in the va**na
Often described as a fishy smell, especially after in*******se
May come with thin, grey or white discharge

👉 BV is not always s*xually transmitted, but it can be triggered by:

Douching
Hormonal changes
New s*xual partners

2. Poor Hygiene or Trapped Sweat

The va**nal area is warm and moist, which can lead to odor if not properly cared for.

Sweat, tight clothing, or not changing underwear regularly can cause smell
Odor may be stronger after exercise or long days

👉 Important:

The va**na is self-cleaning do not wash inside
Clean the external area (v***a) gently with water

3. Yeast Infection

While yeast infections don’t usually cause a strong smell, they can still change your va**nal scent.

Thick, white (cottage cheese-like) discharge
Itching, irritation, or burning
Mild, sometimes bread-like odor

👉 Often triggered by:

Antibiotics
High sugar intake
Hormonal fluctuations

4. Hormonal Changes (Periods, Pregnancy, Stress)

Your hormones directly affect va**nal pH and scent.

During your period → a metallic smell (from blood) is normal
During ovulation or pregnancy → scent may be stronger
Stress can also disrupt your va**nal balance

When Should You Be Concerned?

Seek advice if you notice:

Strong fishy or rotten smell
Green, yellow, or grey discharge
Itching, burning, or pain
Odor that doesn’t go away

Gentle Reminder 🌿

A va**na is not supposed to smell like perfume,it has its own natural scent. The goal is balance not masking the smell.
