Emotional abuse in relationships

🚦Warning long post worthy reading🚦

Emotional abuse in a relationship refers to any behavior that threatens, intimidates, undermines self-worth, or controls another person.

Examples of emotional abuse include verbal abuse such as name-calling, blaming, and criticism, as well as controlling behaviors like isolating a person from friends and family, monitoring their movements and activities, and manipulating them through guilt or fear. Emotional abuse can be just as damaging as physical abuse.

Emotional abuse can have serious and long-lasting effects on a person's physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Some of the effects of emotional abuse can include:

Low self-esteem and self-worth.

Depression and anxiety.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Difficulty trusting others or forming healthy relationships.

Difficulty making decisions or asserting oneself.

Difficulty in expressing and managing emotions.

Chronic physical symptoms, such as headaches, stomachaches, and fatigue.

Substance abuse or addiction.

Difficulty in maintaining healthy boundaries.

Difficulty in managing stress.

Difficulty in thinking clearly and making rational decisions.

Difficulty in trusting oneself.

Difficulty in forming and/or maintaining healthy relationships.

Difficulty in believing in oneself.

Difficulty in feeling safe and secure.

It's important to note that the effects of emotional abuse can be just as severe as the effects of physical abuse and that it often leads to long-term psychological issues. It is important for victims to seek help and support, whether it be through therapy, support groups, or other resources, in order to heal and recover from the abuse.

Take note, it is difficult to know that you are emotionally abused. Abusers make you feel unworthy and in long run you believe of being unworthy and lowers your selfesteem. Hence having challenges to seek for help and support.

"The worrying thing is that most cases of depression are missed in primary and secondary health facilities. Many patients who are suffering from depression end up being given LA as if they were suffering from malaria. In some instances, they are advised to rake strong pain killers to treat body pains when, in real sence, the person is depressed"
