Each elements that make up this design have an important meaning.
Iguana:
The iguana held special meaning for cultures of Mesoamerica such as the Aztec, Mayan, and Olmec civilizations. Iguanas symbolized the cycles of life and death; iguanas represented a medium between worlds, they offered guidance for the deceased entering the underworld after death. Also they linked them to rain and agricultural fertility.

The Aztec Sun Stone (before was called “The Aztec Calendar”):
The central disk is believed to represent an Aztec deity, probably a Sun god, since the Sun was of utmost importance for the Aztecs. The Sun gods were believed to have ended and ushered in new eras of time on Earth, as is thought to be one of the main themes of the Sun Stone.
The sun-god was the most important god to the Aztecs as he was said to be the guardian of heaven. The guarantee of afterlife was said to be the sun, due to its constant rising and setting. Therefore, the meaning of the Aztec sun tattoo is ‘belief in afterlife’. It was also made to show adoration for the sun-god
