Do You Think You’re Getting Old?
Maybe not.
More often than we realize,
it is not simply our age increasing—
it is our fascia quietly aging.
In our twenties,
we could play basketball, run, hike,
and recover quickly afterward.
Then one day,
the same jump,
the same landing,
and suddenly we sprain an ankle.
In our thirties,
after working late into the night,
we sleep in for hours hoping to recover.
Yet when we wake up,
instead of feeling refreshed,
our whole body aches,
and fatigue lingers.
In our forties,
we run to catch a bus,
and nearly fall.
Our reactions are slower,
our balance is no longer what it once was.
After fifty,
we travel with friends.
While everyone else seems energetic,
we find ourselves struggling with altitude sickness—
shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness.
Or perhaps we step onto a glass bridge.
We know it is perfectly safe,
yet our body tenses,
our legs feel weak,
and fear suddenly takes over.
These changes
may not be caused by age alone.
Inside each of us exists a remarkable three-dimensional network—
the fascia.
It connects muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels, and organs,
providing support, transmitting force,
coordinating movement,
and helping us perceive the world around us.
When fascia becomes dehydrated,
circulation slows,
and repair processes become less efficient,
pain increases,
mobility decreases,
balance worsens,
sleep quality declines,
and even our emotional resilience
and tolerance to stress can be affected.
The good news is this:
Fascia is not a tissue that simply waits to grow old.
With proper movement,
regular stretching,
adequate hydration,
quality sleep,
and effective stress management,
fascia retains the ability to adapt, regenerate,
and repair itself.
So when your body begins sending these signals,
don’t rush to say,
“I’m getting old.”
Perhaps,
it is simply time
to start taking care of your fascia.
Because true health
is not about adding years to life—
it is about preserving vitality,
so your body can carry you farther,
for longer.
Final Thought
You may think it’s your age that is growing old.
But often, it is your fascia that ages first.

In fact, over the past decade or so, interest in fascia research has surged within the Western medical community. Many researchers have even gone so far as to say:
“Fascia may be one of the most long-neglected organ systems in the human body.”
This shift is quite intriguing and aligns closely with the direction of Dr. Fascia’s current research.
⸻
1️⃣ Medicine has historically “overlooked fascia”
In traditional anatomy, fascia was often viewed merely as:
• Connective tissue enveloping muscles
• A membrane that needs to be incised during surgery
Consequently, in many medical textbooks, it was treated as little more than “filler.”
It wasn’t until recent research that it was discovered that fascia is actually a continuous network system spanning the entire body.
⸻
2️⃣ The Emergence of the International Fascia Research Congress
Starting in 2007, scientists from around the world began holding regular
Fascia Research Congresses.
Participating fields include:
• Anatomy
• Sports medicine
• Neuroscience
• Physical therapy
• Pain medicine
This research has gradually transformed the medical community’s understanding of fascia.
⸻
3️⃣ The Discovery That Fascia Is Rich in Nerve Receptors
Research has revealed that fascia contains a large number of:
• Mechanoreceptors
• Proprioceptors
• Pain receptors
In other words, fascia is not merely “wrapping,” but rather:
a vital system that senses the body’s condition.
This also explains why many chronic pain conditions actually stem from fascial tension.
⸻
4️⃣ The Connection Between Fascia and Emotions
In recent years, some researchers have proposed that:
Emotional stress affects fascial tension through the nervous system.
For example:
• Chronic anxiety → Tension in the shoulder and neck fascia
• Stress → Altered breathing patterns → Tension in the diaphragm
This actually bears some resemblance to the concept in the *Huangdi Neijing*
that “emotions and will affect the circulation of qi and blood.”
⸻
5️⃣ The West is beginning to reinterpret “holistic medicine”
Many physicians are beginning to realize:
The human body is not a collection of separate organs, but a holistic system.
For example:
• Posture
• Breathing
• Visceral tension
• The nervous system
All of these influence one another through the fascia.
⸻
✅ Consequently, many researchers now make an interesting observation:
What Western medicine has spent two centuries rediscovering
has actually long existed as similar concepts in ancient Eastern medicine.
For example:
• Meridians
• Qi and blood
• The tendon-vessel system
These concepts correspond to the fascial network in certain respects.
So, while we currently do not know the full extent of fascial activity in our daily lives, we can choose positive emotions to signal to the fascia and thereby reduce fascial tension!
Fascia Research Congress(國際筋膜研究大會)。
