Our visit to Oupus Organics in Kota Kinabalu gave us a closer look at how this social enterprise is creating impact. We had the joy of meeting the team, Chollin, Aunty Pian, Juddy, and Merlvin, and we learned how they transform Bambangan, a native fruit in Borneo that is rich in antioxidants, into sustainable skincare products.

Founder Vellary Maydelina Yong, a Biotechnology graduate, collaborates with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to ensure the products are scientifically validated and beneficial. What was once discarded now holds value, creating opportunities for local farmers like Merlvin to earn additional income.
‌
Beyond this, Oupus empowers women from communities that are marginalised in Borneo through flexible work arrangement and skills training, fostering economic and social impact.
‌
We were also happy to have Åsa Skogström Feldt, Managing Director of IKEA Social Entrepreneurship, who is in the neighborhood, join us to meet Oupus Organics, share her insights, and connect with the team.

Through SEAM, we aim to create a long-term impact by supporting social enterprises with support, resources, and networks. Co-created with IKEA Social Entrepreneurship and supported by IKEA Malaysia, SEAM fosters sustainable solutions that prioritise social impact.
