There’s been much debate on whether an eye cream is important. I still get clients asking if they can make do without it.

From skincare science perspective, it does make a difference for your skin over the eye area in terms of look and texture.

If you are confused whether you should consider a dedicated eye care product or to just make do with your regular face moisturiser, let’s narrow down on who will benefit the most out of a dedicated eye care product.

So who will need it?

✅ Those with naturally dry skin.

✅ Those on anti aging skincare regiment (35 and above)

✅ Those prone to allergic reactions resulting in frequent rubbing of the eyes.

❤️ The skin area the eye area is thin and lacks oil glands unlike the rest of the face which tends to be more oily. Therefore the skin surrounding the eye area will naturally lack moisture, more so if you have overall dry skin. And skin lacking in moisture will be the first to show signs of aging. Look at it this way: It’s easier for a dry paper to crease when crumpled when it’s dry compared to when it’s wet.

❤️ Those on anti aging skincare skin regiment naturally will need a dedicated eye care product because, well, to slow down the skin aging process. Signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles and crows feet are very noticeable around the eye area due to the skin texture which is thin, delicate and lacking in moisture.

❤️ Allergies, now these are nasty! Dark circles and wrinkles are common with people prone to allergies as it will naturally result in rubbing of the eyes. When the delicate skin around the eyes are vigorously rubbed, this will not only result in creasing and wrinkling of the skin but also rupture of fine capillaries around the eye area.

The result?

Dark circles. It is due to the internal bleeding around the eye sockets from the ruptured capillaries.

So there goes. No more confusion over the necessity of dedicated eye care products. If you fall in any of the above three categories, go invest in a good eye cream/ serum right away!

Eye Care Don’ts:

❌ DO NOT use your facial moisturiser around the eye area. This will cause milia (oil seeds) due to the excess moisturising. The moisture levels you need around the eye area and the rest of your face differs.
