High blood pressure statistics are among the highest of any medical condition, affecting about one out of every three people. There's a fair chance that you, or anyone in your family, has been diagnosed with high blood pressure. Why should your blood pressure be a concern?
As high blood pressure can lead to more serious health problems such as heart attacks and strokes, constant high blood pressure should be avoided. The real pressure within the body's blood vessels is referred to as blood pressure, and it is primarily regulated by the heart's pumping mechanism.
Blood pressure is measured using two fractional numbers. The systolic pressure is the pressure in your blood vessels when your heart expands to pump blood out, while the diastolic pressure is the pressure in your blood vessels when your heart is at rest between beats. Blood pressure readings of less than 120/80 are now considered healthy and common. However, you do hear of people telling you that BP readings of more than 120/80 are normal for the elderly, and most of them would have some degree of vessel hardening as they age: Actually this can be prevented!
Although genetics may play a role in whether or not you develop high blood pressure, environmental factors are more likely to be the cause.
Here are three simple lifestyle changes you can make to naturally lower your blood pressure.
Stress reduction. Because of its impact on the central nervous system, stress is a major contributor to high blood pressure. Chronic stress causes the nervous system to enter a sympathetic state, also known as a "fight or flight" response. When exercising or fleeing a bear, this mechanism is critical, but the body should not be in this condition all of the time. This chronic nervous system imbalance can cause high blood pressure and has even been linked to the onset of disease processes. Regular mindfulness or meditation practice will help you relieve stress. Exercising is essential. Exercise has been shown to have a significant effect on blood pressure. Regular physical activity strengthens and improves the efficiency with which your heart pumps blood across the body. Nutrition is very important. Certain foods may either cause your blood pressure to rise or help you maintain a healthy level. Sugar-rich foods have been linked to an increase in blood pressure, body weight, and inflammation. Certain fats, such as trans fats, will raise LDL (low-density lipoproteins), which is bad cholesterol, in your body, worsening your blood pressure. While cholesterol is not inherently bad (it is needed for the production of important hormones and cellular reactions), it is critical to maintain a healthy ratio of high HDL to low LDL cholesterol. Let's not forget the importance of anti-oxidants, these play an important role to prevent the cholesterol plaque from forming in our arteries- the main factor of hardening of arteries giving rise to the body's veins' inability to extend when pressure rises.
