These enablers often think they’re being loyal, but in reality, they’re being used as emotional shields and weapons.

Some of them act out of blind loyalty, others out of fear, and some because they’ve been manipulated into viewing the narcissist as the “victim.” They jump in to “protect” the narcissist from being confronted, questioned, or held accountable. Instead of seeing the damage being done, they choose sides without seeking the truth.

And so, the narcissist’s target ends up not just fighting one toxic person—but an entire group trained to invalidate, dismiss, and minimize their pain.

This is why dealing with a narcissist becomes so exhausting: you’re not battling just the abuser, but the network that enables the abuse to continue.
