❤ HONEY: Nature's Energy Booster ❤

The benefits of honey go beyond its great taste. A great natural source of carbohydrates which provide strength and energy to our bodies, honey is known for its effectiveness in instantly boosting the performance, endurance and reduce muscle fatigue of athletes. Its natural sugars play an important role in preventing fatigue during exercise. The glucose in honey is absorbed by the body quickly and gives an immediate energy boost, while the fructose is absorbed more slowly providing sustained energy.

It is known that honey has also been found to keep levels of blood sugar fairly constant compared to other types of sugar. So, to experience these health benefits of honey, here are a few tips:

1. Next time before a workout, take a spoon of honey to enable you to go for the extra mile.

2. If you are feeling low and lethargic in the morning, instead of reaching out for a can of carbonated energy drink , try honey. Spread it on hot toast or replace the sugar in your tea with it for a refreshing surge of energy.

3. If your kids are finding hard to cope with the physical strain from the buzzing activities at school, prepare them a honey drink, some sandwiches with honey, butter and ham to make sure they have enough energy to sustain through the day. And for optimal sleep and recovery cycle at night, give your child a spoonful of honey before sleep on a daily basis.

❤ ISLAM MEMENTINGKAN PENJAGAAN KESIHATAN ❤

(Hadis Riwayat Muslim)

Kita diingatkan betapa bernilainya harga kesihatan.

( Hadis Riwayat Abu Daud).

❤ WHAT IS HIGH BLOOD CHOLESTEROL? ❤

High blood cholesterol is a condition in which you have too much cholesterol in your blood. By itself, the condition usually has no signs or symptoms. Thus, many people don’t know that their cholesterol levels are too high.

People who have high blood cholesterol have a greater chance of getting coronary heart disease, also called coronary artery disease. (In this article, the term “heart disease” refers to coronary heart disease.)

The higher the level of LDL cholesterol in your blood, the GREATER your chance is of getting heart disease. The higher the level of HDL cholesterol in your blood, the LOWER your chance is of getting heart disease.

Coronary heart disease is a condition in which plaque (plak) builds up inside the coronary (heart) arteries. Plaque is made up of cholesterol, fat, calcium, and other substances found in the blood. When plaque builds up in the arteries, the condition is called atherosclerosis (ATH-er-o-skler-O-sis).

Over time, plaque hardens and narrows your coronary arteries. This limits the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart.

Eventually, an area of plaque can rupture (break open). This causes a blood clot to form on the surface of the plaque. If the clot becomes large enough, it can mostly or completely block blood flow through a coronary artery.

If the flow of oxygen-rich blood to your heart muscle is reduced or blocked, angina (an-JI-nuh or AN-juh-nuh) or a heart attack may occur.

Angina is chest pain or discomfort. It may feel like pressure or squeezing in your chest. The pain also may occur in your shoulders, arms, neck, jaw, or back. Angina pain may even feel like indigestion.

A heart attack occurs if the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a section of heart muscle is cut off. If blood flow isn’t restored quickly, the section of heart muscle begins to die. Without quick treatment, a heart attack can lead to serious problems or death.

Plaque also can build up in other arteries in your body, such as the arteries that bring oxygen-rich blood to your brain and limbs. This can lead to problems such as carotid artery disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease.

❤ WHAT IS CHOLESTEROL? ❤

To understand high blood cholesterol (ko-LES-ter-ol), it helps to learn about cholesterol. Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that’s found in all cells of the body.

Your body needs some cholesterol to make hormones, vitamin D, and substances that help you digest foods. Your body makes all the cholesterol it needs. However, cholesterol also is found in some of the foods you eat.

Cholesterol travels through your bloodstream in small packages called lipoproteins (lip-o-PRO-teens). These packages are made of fat (lipid) on the inside and proteins on the outside.

Two kinds of lipoproteins carry cholesterol throughout your body: low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and high-density lipoproteins (HDL). Having healthy levels of both types of lipoproteins is important.

LDL cholesterol sometimes is called “bad” cholesterol. A high LDL level leads to a buildup of cholesterol in your arteries. (Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood from your heart to your body.)

HDL cholesterol sometimes is called “good” cholesterol. This is because it carries cholesterol from other parts of your body back to your liver. Your liver removes the cholesterol from your body.

❤ HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE/HYPERTENSION ❤

Blood pressure is one way to measure how healthy your heart is. It is relatively easy to determine, and high blood pressure, or hypertension, is treatable.

What it measures is the pressure that your blood is exerting on the walls of your veins and arteries. Blood pressure is expressed as some number “over” some other number. The first number is called the systolic and measures the pressure when your heart is actually pumping. The second number is called the diastolic and measures the pressure between beats of your heart.

Any systolic number below 140 is considered normal for an adult, as is any diastolic number below 90. Individual cases are of course different.

The problem with blood pressure arises because the heart has to work much harder to pump blood through the veins and arteries when blood pressure is high. But perhaps the most dangerous part of high blood pressure is that most people with high blood pressure have no symptoms at all. The only way to determine if you have high blood pressure is to visit a doctor or clinic and have it checked.

Should you find that you do have high blood pressure, there are a great many things you can do to help it. These include but are not limited to:

A low-fat diet
A low-salt diet
Quitting smoking
Losing weight
Exercising more
Cutting back on alcohol intake

CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE

Coronary artery disease (CAD) occurs when the coronary arteries – the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart – are narrowed or blocked. Arteries become narrowed or blocked when fat (cholesterol) and calcium and other products in the blood build up inside the lining of the arteries forming a plaque. This process is called atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries.

Atherosclerosis can, and often does, affect arteries throughout the body, including the ones that supply blood to the heart, the brain (cerebrovascular disease), and your arms and legs (peripheral vascular disease).

When plaque builds up inside the coronary arteries, the blood flow to the heart is reduced. Ischemia is the term doctors use to describe the condition in which blood flow to the heart is reduced. When an area of the heart doesn’t receive enough blood, chest pain or discomfort (angina) may occur.

Over time, reduced blood flow may weaken the heart muscle so that it is not able to pump effectively. This may result in other serious conditions, such as cardiomyopathy or heart failure.
