When “Health” Became Harmful

She only wanted to stay healthy.

Every morning and evening, she took handfuls of supplements — multivitamins, tonics, herbal blends — anything that promised strength and long life.
For a while, she felt fine. Then came the tiredness, yellow eyes, and weakness.

By the time she got to the hospital, her liver and kidneys were already failing. Sadly, she didn’t make it. 💔

It wasn’t poison that killed her — it was excess.
She believed that “the more, the better,” not knowing that even good things can become dangerous when abused.

Before you take that next supplement, pause and ask yourself: Do I really need this?

Let’s talk about supplements — the truth, the myths, and the safe way to use them. 👇

Ethnic Nationalism and Violence in Nigeria - A Critical Examination of MASSOB, OPC, IPOB, and Oodua Nation

Nigeria’s post-military democratic era has witnessed a resurgence of ethnic nationalist movements, fueled by historical grievances, socio-political marginalization, and regional identity politics. Among the most prominent are Ralph Uwazuruike’s Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Gani Adams’ Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Nnamdi Kanu’s Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho’s Oodua Nation. While these groups differ in ideology, methods, and ethnic constituencies, they share a general direction, mobilizing communities around separatist or ethnic self-determination narratives, leveraging vigilante or paramilitary capacities, and operating under intense federal scrutiny. Their persistence underscores structural gaps in Nigeria’s federal system and the ongoing challenge of balancing national cohesion with regional autonomy amid insecurity, economic hardship, and governance deficits.

Ralph Uwazuruike’s MASSOB, established in 1999, embodies a historically rooted form of Igbo nationalism. Uwazuruike publicly champions non-violence, drawing inspiration from figures such as Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. However, the movement faced repeated allegations of violent acts by rogue members during protests and demonstrations. The federal government responded with arrests, property raids, and prolonged detentions of Uwazuruike and his affiliates, reflecting a zero-tolerance approach to perceived secessionist threats. Despite this, MASSOB maintained community initiatives, including housing schemes for veterans and diaspora engagement, highlighting its dual character as a civic advocacy group and a latent militant presence. Currently, Uwazuruike continues pro-Biafra advocacy, supporting IPOB and facing police scrutiny over planned peaceful protests for Kanu’s release.
