This is ok. A lot of us put pressure on our selves to have our body snapback by a specific date and whilst setting a goal for yourself is good, it should not leave you frustrated, angry or hating yourself for not looking or feeling the way you imagined it would be. Being a mother is not easy and we go through so many changes for our babies. Whether you are waiting for your bump to show or if you have a postpartum bump your body is amazing and worthy. Don’t rush your recovery and don’t compare.

Getting baby out we adopt very similar positions to getting baby in/having fun😉
Pushing in multiple different positions is really beneficial because your pelvis is a mobile structure. Movement can optimise the diameter of your pelvis and encourage descent of baby’s head using gravity too.
What’s more is that you can still be super mobile if you have an epidural (which sometimes people consider a limiting factor - but with a creative midwife you’d be surprised the positions we can adopt).
Use all the tools you have, the space, props in the room and your birth partner!

Did you know that excess weight, especially obesity, diminishes almost every aspect of health, from reproductive and respiratory function to memory and mood. Obesity increases the risk of several debilitating, and deadly diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers. It does this through a variety of pathways, some as straightforward as the mechanical stress of carrying extra pounds and some involving complex changes in hormones and metabolism. Obesity decreases the quality and length of life, and increases individual, national, and global healthcare costs. The good news, though, is that weight loss can curtail some obesity-related risks. (1) Losing as little as 5 to 10 percent of body weight offers meaningful health benefits to people who are obese, even if they never achieve their “ideal” weight, and even if they only begin to lose weight later in life.

Have you heard of Vitamin K? saw this post on the fitmidwife page and had to share here
This is one of the first decisions you make regarding your newborn, should they have it? How do they have it? What does it even do?
Soon after the birth of your baby, you’ll be offered vitamin K for them. This is offered to help prevent a rare bleeding disorder called Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding (VKDB). Just google about it 😊
Babies are not born with sufficient levels of Vitamin K, so in rare situations a baby may suffer a bleed. Vitamin K helps us clot out blood.
This bleeding is a serious but rare condition affecting around in 1 in 11,000 babies.
Babies are more at risk if:
💉they were born prematurely (before 37 weeks)
💉they were delivered by forceps, suction or c-section
💉they had bruising from birth
💉 your baby gets circumcised
💉you are on certain drugs during your pregnancy (I.e for epilepsy)
We can give Vitamin K via an injection in to your baby’s thigh. Alternatively we can provide oral Vitamin K. You absolutely have the right to decline vitamin K if you want to.
Of course some of the drawbacks of injection are that it may leave a small bruise or mark on baby’s skin for a couple of days, rarely the site can become infected. It also causes them a small amount of pain (as any shot will) and they will cry a little.
With the oral medication it can be tricky to know if they have ingested it all, especially as it tastes very bitter so they may spit it out. It is given in 3 doses. The first at birth, then 7 days old and finally 6 weeks old.
Did your baby have it?
