Type 4 Hair
Coily hair structure

It is sub-divided into 3 sections

Type 4A
It is drier and requires keeping it moisturized to prevent breakage. It is densely springy and short when dry but longer when wet. To maintain softness frequent using of sulphate free shampoo and a deep conditioner. Leave-in moisturizer is a must for everyday styling to improve moisture level of hair.

Type 4B
It is densely packed and can be shaped in different way. To maintain kinks, curls and coils using curl enhanced products is encouraged. Since texture is thick, To stretch hair, use heat protector, stretch enhanced products and a straightener.

Type 4C
This hair type witnesses the highest shrinkage; about 70 percent or more than the other texture. It is tightly-coiled (Zig-zag shaped) that is hard to see and separate. It is best to detangle when wet to prevent breakage.

Getting to know your hair isn't as intricate as you think, all you need to know about your hair is its texture, shape, tenacity and reaction to hair products.

If your Natural hair falls between the loose wave and the springy corkscrew curls then you have a type 3 hair.Like every other hair type, type 3 hair has three subcategories.

Type 3A
If you have a loose, bouncy and spiral nature to your hair then this category is about your hair. With or without products type 3A is well-defined. It is also coarse and dry due to its structure and build-up. It gets longer when wet but shrinks when dry.

Type 3B
It ranges from bouncy ringlets to springy corkscrew. It is coarser and drier than 3A and us also liable to shrinkage and frizz.

Type 3C
It is tightly packed and voluminous in nature but due to shrinkage it looks shorter in length. It is coarser than it's counterpart and need deep conditioning every other week to maintain it's oiliness and prevent breakage and frizz

To maintain your Type 3 hair you should try going without plait for a while to reduce breakage and frizz.

Type 2 hair is naturally wavy👩‍🦱. It is sub-divided into three

Type 2A: Naturally wavy with few loose ringlets

Type 2B: It has more waves and ringlets than 2A

Type 2C: waves are well defined and distributed with numerous ringlets 😌.

Type 2 hair is often mistaken for curly hair; While curly hair is very whirly, wavy hair is S shaped and loose. It shape is determined by the cortex ( a pigmented layer of hair below the cuticle.)

Since wavy hair has ringlets and waves towel drying it after wash can cause frizz . Drip drying is best for wavy hair or rather opt for bamboo or microfiber towels instead of cotton towels. Using a wide tooth brush helps reduce frizz as well.

Tips on how to care for Type 1 hair.

•Do not apply shampoo too often to straight hair (frequent application leads to the secretion of sebum - a fatty particle from oily body glands).

•To avoid frizzy/breakage of hair apply heat resistant substance to the hair before using hot iron or curling tools.

•since straight hair resist curls, you might want to use appropriate products to enhance curls.

•Try using clarifying shampoo/hair rinse once a while, you will love the outcome.

•Straight hair are scanty, you should try side parts next time you style your hair. it will make your hair look voluminous.

•Try adding layers (weavons, wool, attachment) to your hair to give it body and thickness.

•Ensure your hair-do isn't too tight- it leads to breakage and thinning of your front hair.

How well do you know about your type 1 hair?

Type 1 hair is predominantly straight. It is further sub- divided into three categories

•Type 1A
It is extremely straight, has no body, and it is resistant to curls.

•Type 1B
It is straight and has more body wave than 1A.

•Type 1C
It is naturally straight and voluminous but with bends here and there and a bit of body wave.

Type 1A is not as common as the other types, but it is softer, wispier and more shiny.

Even though type 1 hair is wispy, shiny easy to handle and untangle, its downside is that it is scanty, also oil buildup makes hair greasy and uncomfortable.
