Why do we have so many divorcees single mothers today?
A lot of young sisters are falling into wrong hands for nikah because they do not involve learned elders to help them investigate the suitor well or they accept his proposal for the wrong reasons like he has a good job or he is good looking without knowing enough about his Deen and character.
Another reason is that a lot of young brothers who are getting married don't know anything about the nature of women so they easily get frustrated and disappointed after a short period after nikah.
Another reason is that both families are not carried along well enough and not fully involved at the early stage in order to give the young couple enough orientation about what they are going into because the brother and sister think they know enough or know better than their parents.
Many so-called brothers that are proposing for nikah are not matured enough for marriage, they are not prepared morally, spiritually, financially and psychologically. Some don't even have a business or a job or a regular means of livelihood with which they can maintain the home.
Some of these brothers don't have any religious teacher or mentor that counsels or guides them when they are lost and need guidance. They don't have any elder or teacher who can call them to order when they default or do something wrong.
Those "scholars" who are invited to conduct the nikahs or to advise the couples should make sure that all the necessary steps are taken including istikharah and istisharah before going ahead with the nikah. Wa Allahu a'lam. May Allah rectify the affairs of young couples. Amin.
