In the past, almost every household would help children construct their own small mosques during Ramadan. Sadly, only a few communities still practice this noble tradition today.

On the Appointment of the Next Chief Imam of Ilorin

Sincerely, wetin death go cause? Only Allah (SWT) fit settle am. Lately, I have seen some Kwara bloggers chasing attention, speculating on who will be the next Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate, as if the process is strange or new.

Are they even aware of how many Imams serve in the Ilorin Central Mosque before one is eventually called Chief Imam? This is not a sudden appointment; it is a gradual, disciplined, and spiritual journey built over years of service, learning, and character.

Secondly, Ilorin is widely known for its righteous and orderly process when it comes to chieftaincy and religious leadership. Have you ever seen a Chief Imam or traditional title holder in Ilorin who was not worthy of the position? Never. It has never happened.

Our father and mentor, Late Sheikh Imam Bashir OON, served for over 40 years as Chief Imam (if I am not mistaken). That alone should tell some people that either they were not attentive then—or not yet born. So why the sudden noise and pressure over a process that has always been handled with wisdom and patience?

Lastly, I see people spotlighting Professors, Doctors, and academic titles. Let us be sincere: what exactly do those titles have to do with the selection of an Imam? Was our late Chief Imam addressed as Professor? Was he appointed based on Gregorian or Western academic knowledge?

Knowledge is wide, and as the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
“Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.”
We may not have another Imam Bashir OON again, but whoever is chosen—by Allah’s will—will grow in knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual depth with time.

Gidan Alimi is a respected house, and by Allah’s grace, it will always stand out. Let those entrusted with this responsibility handle it with the care, patience, and reverence it deserves.

Ilorin has a history. Ilorin has a process.
Let us respect both.

The first Jumu‘at prayer after the passing of the Chief Imam was observed today, Friday 23rd January 2026, at the Ilorin Central Mosque.
The Khutbah (sermon) was delivered by the Chief Imam Imale of Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Abdullahi Abdulhamid, in an atmosphere filled with reflection, prayers, and remembrance.
May Almighty Allah forgive the late Chief Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Soliu Al-Fulani, OON, envelop him in His mercy, and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
May Allah also grant the Ilorin Emirate and the entire Ummah the strength to bear this great loss.

Almost two months ago( Nov. 27 2025) This book was launched in honour of Sheikh Muh. Bashir Salih OON. It inspires, educative and truly spiritual.
