Abducted Oyo students and teachers were released unconditionally - Army

The Nigerian Army says the 44 pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo state on May 15 were released unconditionally by the terrorists on Friday, July 10.

In a statement released, the Army said the rescue operation was led by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, *Major General CR Nnebeife*, in collaboration with special units from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) specifically the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC),the Defence Headquarters with Special Forces elements from the Nigerian Army, Navy the Air Force and the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies.

The Army said the operations, which lasted for more than a month, focused on identifying the terrorist kingpins that masterminded the kidnapping, bursting and dismantling their networks and logistics links, including their informants and hideouts located within the Old Oyo National Park Forest, Oyo State.

The military said multiple arrests were made within Oyo State and in other locations across some states in the Country.

‘’These arrests completely disorganized the group, exerted overwhelming pressure on them and ultimately led the terrorist group to *unconditionally release* the pupils and teachers. Further operations are to be conducted. It suffices to note that the operations were carefully planned and executed to avoid collateral damages and to equally ensure that the innocent children and teachers were safely rescued. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces.'' the statement read

The statement concluded by saying pupils and teachers are currently receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital and will be handed over to the Oyo State Government in due course so as to be reunited with their families.

Security forces have successfully rescued all 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, after 56 days in captivity.

The operation, involving military and DSS operatives, concluded in the early hours of today July 10, 2026.

Meet Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife. He led the rescue operations at Oriire LGA.

Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife is a highly decorated senior officer in the Nigerian Army, currently serving as the 47th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He assumed command of 2 Division in August 2025, which also involves serving as the Force Commander for Sector 3 of Operation Fansan Yama.

It wasn’t easy for me, bcos l used to sell pure water to assist myself, l attended OCD school, l later withdrew when l didn’t pay school

All my siblings are graduates today except me thou l am planning going back to school but l am the only one feeding my father and helping them today

Bcos my other siblings couldn’t secure a good job despite how educated they are and the government is doing nothing to help graduates

That’s why l tell people, school is not everything, go and get something doing with your life,

We borrowed money together to start business tho it was different shops 🏬 but the same goods and his own was booming each and every single day while it takes me two months or more before I could turn up but it doesn’t take him two weeks he has already called the distributors for new goods. Every morning before sunrise, Mia Khan starts his motorcycle and embarks on a 12-kilometre journey with his three daughters. His destination is the nearest school because there is no girls' school in their village.

But what makes his story extraordinary is what happens next.

After dropping them off, he doesn't ride back home. Instead, he waits patiently outside the school for four hours until classes are over, just to make sure his daughters return home safely.

He repeated this act of love every school day for seven years.

Sometimes he had a motorcycle. Sometimes he walked. But he never allowed poverty, distance, or hardship to stand between his daughters and an education.

A poor farmer from Afghanistan's Paktika province, Mia Khan understood something many people overlook: education is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child.

He once said: "I hope that one day my daughters will support me the way I have supported them. I am a very poor man. I hope they become well educated. I hope they become doctors."

His wife, Khorma, stood beside him throughout the journey. Although neither of them ever had the opportunity to attend school, they were determined that their daughters would have the future they never had.

Their daughter, Rozai, summed it up beautifully: "My mother and father did not go to school, so there is no one to help us with our homework."

When Mia Khan's story reached the internet, it inspired people across the world. The Afghan Ministry of Education invited him to Kabul, honoured him with a medal, and promised to build a girls' school in his village.

Even more remarkably, the school would bear his name.

This is what true fatherhood looks like.
