Anovulation can be defined as absence of eggs. This is when a woman’s ovaries do not release an egg during a menstrual cycle. It’s a common cause of infertility.
Stress, hormonal imbalances, illness, extreme weight fluctuations, change of climate can be some major causes.

Anovulation is typically, although not always, coupled with irregular or lack of menstruation. However, with anovulatory cycles, there may be bleeding, which a woman may mistake for a normal menstruation, although this would only rarely occur on a regular, monthly basis.

The most defining feature in diagnosing anovulation is simply the absence of regular menstruation. Other tests that may be performed during the evaluation include:
* Testing blood progesterone levels.
* Testing blood thyroid and prolactin levels.
* Ultrasound exam of the pelvic organs.
* Other tests may be recommended, such as testing the lining of the uterus or other blood tests, depending on the woman’s evaluation and history.

Miscarriage, medically termed spontaneous abortion is the loss of a pregnancy( the loss of a foetus before it is developed enough to survive) usually 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Chromosomal abnormalities includes problems with placenta, weakened cervix infections, hormonal problems, maternal age and trauma, obesity, High Blood pressure, uterine abnormalities, implantation of the egg into the uterine lining does not occur properly, exposure
to radiation or toxic substances, smoking and drinking alcohol.
However there are other several preventive measures which includes
Eating nutritious diet, avoid smoking and drinking during pregnancy, maintain a healthy weight,
See a gynecologist in a case of more than one occurrence.

Embryonic development involves complex processes that require coordination and if things goes astray, it could result in various issues.

Two critical issues could be Anencephaly which is the failure of normal development of the brain and spinal bifida is a defect in which the spinal cord development is arrested usually in a small part of the spinal cord.

Babies affected by this are unable to use their legs which is also called paraplegia and can as well have abnormal bladder and bowel function.

If a woman supplements her diet with a small additional amount of folic acid from three months before pregnancy and through the first trimester, she will substantially reduce the risk of neural tube defects that might occur during pregnancy and can in turn lead to miscarriage. Sometimes the embryo will develop abnormally.
Hence; Supplemental folic acid for preferably a period of time before and during pregnancy is REQUIRED.
