If you are keen on avoiding wrinkles. Here are 5 simple steps to start.

1. Protect your skin from the sun. To prevent aging and wrinkles it is important to use sunscreen that has at least SPF 50 protection. Sunscreen helps create a layer that physically blocks harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun.

2. If you smoke, stop. Smoking causes wrinkles and a dull complexion.

3. Eat a healthy balanced diet. Eating too much processed sugar and carbohydrates can damage your skin's collagen. Your diet should contains the right quantity of things like tomatoes, watermelon, grapefruits, spinach, tuna, wheat bread, brown rice etc

4. Exercise. This is one of the best defences against the toughest aspect of aging. The sooner you begin and the longer you remain physically active, the better. On average you should take at least 10,000 steps daily.

5. Moisturize daily. This helps trap water in your skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. It helps keep your skin hydrated and refreshed.

If you have sensitive skin, or just prefer homemade skin care more than the other types, you are not alone.

Although it takes longer to get results when using homemade skin care remedies, they are effective. They are also more accessible and relatively cheaper.

To get results quicker, you have to be consistent. And like I'll always say, beauty treatments start from the inside.

Whether you're using homemade products or skin care products from the supermarket, I strongly suggest you pay attention to drinking water and washing your face twice daily.

These two practices are highly underestimated, but from experience I know they can have a big impact on how well your products work.

Simple steps to care for your skin:

• Drink 2.7 litres (about 5 sachet of pure water daily) if you're a woman.

• Drink 3.7 litres (about 7 sachet) daily if you're a man.

• Wash your face morning and evening with a gentle soap and lukewarm or room temperature water.

• If you have a sensitive skin type, avoid fragranced moisturizers. Shea butter can be a very soothing natural product to apply to any area of your body to soothe any reaction from other products.

• If you have oily skin, you can use honey to control your sebum production and treat acne. Spread a thin layer of pure honey over your face. Let it dry for 10 minutes, and rinse thoroughly with warm water.

• If you have a dry skin type, certain foods can help your skin appear healthier; carrots, tomatoes and peas. You can use coconut oil daily.

• If you have a combination skin type, you want to combat the excess oil and dryness at the same time. Cucumber and honey mixture is perfect for doing this. Dab it on your skin with a cotton ball, allow it to dry, and rinse off with water.

Note: if you develop allergies to any of these products or other products after using it for a while, stop using them.

If the home remedies worsen your symptoms over the course of the first 3 days, stop it and consult a dermatologist, esthetician or experienced skin care consultant.

DRYNESS & ACNE

In the past i have mentioned how, lack of skin moisture or hydration, especially topical hydration has a direct link with acne.

Acne is one of the most common skin problems, those tiny painful bumps sometimes might just be hormonal, or caused by bad hygiene habits, or clogged pores but sometimes they are just there and you can't really figure out why. Frustrating!

It would be just good for you to know that the stubborn acne that always returns as soon as you stop your anti acne medications or acne removal creams and you're breathing a sigh of relief might have been caused by dryness.

When your skin is dry, to compensate, your body produces more sebum (the skin's natural oil). If this sebum is produced in excess as is the case when your skin is dry you risk getting acne. A build up of this sebum and dead skin cells can cause acne.

The simple solution to this is hydration. Drink enough water and eat enough fruits and get a very good moisturiser. Face moisturiser and body moisturiser.

Moisturising is good for all skin types, it combats dryness in dry and combination skin, gives the normal skin type a healthy glow, balances sebum production in oily skin, and soothes and protects the sensitive skin type.

Here are some other steps to take to aid acne removal:

• Exfoliate

• Avoid using too many products or changing them too quickly, it is recommended that you correctly apply skin care products for at least 12weeks before concluding whether they are effective or not.

• Practice good hygiene, all fabrics or tools that come in contact with your face should be clean (pillows, face towel, makeup brushes etc)

• Drink enough water

• Clean off your makeup and wash your face before going to bed

• Get a good acne removal product recommended by your dermatologist.

• Moisture your skin daily.
