Dark knuckles can be embarrassing sometimes. Here are some causes of dark knuckles:

🌼 They may be hereditary in nature. Dark knuckles can be inherited from your parents. Most times they aren’t so bad although they are visible.

🌼 They may also be caused as a side effect of certain medications e.g contraceptive pills . Darkening of knuckles due to drugs usually stops when the treatment is over.

🌼 Darkening of knuckles can also be a sign of vitamin B12 deficiency. Knuckle hyperpigmentation due to vitamin B12 deficiency is usually reversible. Upon correcting this deficiency, the darkening of knuckles also disappears. Vitamin B12 is naturally present in animal based food products like meat, fish, poultry, dairy etc.

🌼 Dark knuckles from washing soap, hypo, cleaning agents : dark knuckles can be gotten from cleaning agents. Because of the harshness of
these cleaning agents, our fingers and hands tend to get brighter while leaving the tough knuckle areas
darker. After washing with these cleaning agents always moisturize your hands.

🌼Dryness..if your skin is dry as a result of the weather or lack of moisture on the area, it could make the knuckles darker . Don’t forget to moisturize your knuckles.

🌼 Dark knuckles from lightening/whitening products. This is the most common cause of extremely dark and embarrassing knuckles. The reason people get knuckles from lightening products are (i)The knuckles are
extremely tough and will need extra moisture. Don’t forget to scrub your knuckles also.
(ii) the products used may be too harsh. Stop using the product.
(iii)the knuckles area are neglected when creaming i.e people dont massage their knuckles properly when creaming. Always massage your cream into your knuckles when applying your cream.
