In This Corona Era, Dump That Face Mask!
In the past few days, I've seen at least three Lagosians walk on the streets, in my neighborhood, wearing clinical face masks! The scenes, albeit amusing, made me ponder. ๐ค
However, I couldn't help but crack up when I saw this picture attached, of a man wearing a leafy mask that makes him look like a woodpecker! ๐
Putting myself in their shoes, I can relate with their belief that Uncle Corona is flying in the air amid them and around people, out there.
If you believe such too, do pause and reflect with me for some minutes. Let me clarify this matter of Corona transmission.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), person-to-person contact via respiratory droplets, is thought to be the main method of transmission of the new strain of the Coronavirus.
In other words, the viral strain is primarily transmitted when a possibly-infected person coughs, sneezes or splutters out tiny droplets, from his/her nose or mouth to one or more individuals that are physically close!
And it is ONLY when these droplets land on your eyes, nose or mouth that you're most likely to contract it!
If these droplets are ejected into the air, when nobody is nearby, they quickly disperse (disappear) or land on surfaces and dry up. They won't come looking for you!
Hence, simply sitting, standing or talking close to someone will not transmit "Covido" to you! Unless of course, they cough, sneeze or splutter on you.
This is where you need to use common sense.
Stay close to those who understand the etiquette of covering their mouths or turning away when they have the urge. And keep a courteous distance from those whom you're unsure have good manners.
You don't need clinical face masks to shield yourself from a viral strain, mainly spread via respiratory droplets which you can easily predict!
You only need masks if you're a nurse in direct contact with sick patients having a viral infection or any other airborne germ, which will be to your benefit.
You may require a mask if you persistently cough or sneeze, for the benefit of others. However, it's not compulsory for there are cost-effective alternatives to contain your droplets.
Face masks are getting scarcer and possibly costlier, by the day, in the marketplace. Moreover, they can only be used once, after which they must be disposed and a new one, worn!
Do you know that when a clinical mask stays too long on your face, it becomes a breeding ground for germs, which could hurt your health?
If you feel the occasional urge to cough or sneeze, temporarily withdraw from people and do it. If you can't, just turn your head away or dig your face into a handkerchief that is solely yours.
Corona or no Corona, that's good mannerism! And you don't need a mask to do that! Just save or leave the scarce few for the dutiful doctors & nurses, out there!

The deliberate battle against germs โ bacteria, fungi & viruses โ is one we will NEVER win!

Live healthily and you will produce less toxins & boost your immunity which will โcontrolโ germ activity. Live unhealthily and your immunity suffers & germs grow wildly!

COVID-19 Effect ๐ What They Haven't Told You About The Corona Virus, That I Will!
Some days ago, a friend paid me a visit and we immediately got into a cerebral discussion about Uncle Corona, the invisible virus that gained worldwide fame, overnight! No be small thing!
In the course of our conversation, he creatively painted a scenario which ended with a question that I gave a shocking answer to!
"Simon", he began, "...if someone walks up to you to offer a handshake and you see the Coronavirus dancing on his palm, will you shake him?"
"Yes, I will!", I replied with a serious tone.
Since the initial outbreak of Uncle Corona, alias COVID-19, back in December 2019, in the city of Wuhan, China, it's undeniable that the fear of "Covido" has spread way faster than the virus itself!
"...highly contagious and deadly!"
That phrase above, which has gone viral, like Uncle Corona, is enough to make the average citizen do crazy, illogical things that could hurt them & even their loved ones, physically or financially.
Unverified claims are making the rounds. Some say we should avoid drinking cold water, some claim mosquitoes carry "Covido" & then market their special repellants, some claim washing our noses with salt solution is protective... The list is endless.
At the end of this article, I'll put down hot links to two reputable news outlets where you can quickly source verified information about the Coronavirus pandemic, globally and in Nigeria.
Since February 24th 2020, when the very first case of infection was confirmed in Lagos, Nigeria, confirmed cases have grown over the weeks to 42, as at today, which prompted the Federal Government to enforce a nationwide lockdown of public gatherings to curb the spread.
Obviously, nobody wants to die. I don't deny that! However, we need to ponder on the timeless quote, below.
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect" - Mark Twain.
Hey! Just because chinese scientists discovered COVID-19 in November 2019 doesn't mean Coronaviruses were born that month!
In 1937, the first Coronavirus was isolated by scientists from chicken flocks. In the 1960s, the first human Coronavirus was extracted from the noses of people with the common cold.
And you know what?
Coronaviruses are the 2nd leading cause of the common cold, after the rhinoviruses! It's called "common" for a reason! Almost everyone has had it and still do!
Truthfully, we have been living with germs - bacteria, fungi & viruses - since the beginning of humanity, aeons ago!
Germs are everywhere! In the air, in the water, on our skin and even in our bodies! In fact, there are thousand times more germs than all the plants & animals on Earth, combined!
Has humanity been wiped off the surface of the Earth, because of this natural occurrence? Nope!
This brings me to the shocking revelation that explains why I'm willing to shake hands with an infected person!
Germs don't cause diseases! They are simply attracted to diseased - weak, injured or dead - tissues which they feed (decompose) and grow on!
Can you tell me that flies and maggots cause garbage? Nah!
On the contrary, the organic garbage (such as f***s) we often carelessly dispose, attract flies & maggots, among other invisible decomposers, which help us "eat them off", efficiently!
Coming down to the human body, which I have studied during and after my tenure in Medical School, I can confidently say that our poor lifestyle choices produce tons of toxins (including diseased tissues) which inevitably invite germs that "help" us eat them off!
Medical practitioners think germs cause disease because of their parasitic behavior in our bodies!
This 'parasitic' tendency, which I don't deny, will ONLY occur when our immune system is compromised due to overwhelm from the toxins we create or consume through unhealthy living!
Our natural immunity is the only reason why humanity still exists today, among zillions of naturally-occurring germs!
And when these numerous germs naturally mutate and we're exposed to them, our immunity "learns" and evolves too to keep us alive!
Hey! I'll write it again! Viruses, amid other germs are everywhere! In our bodies, they swim around in their dormant states because they have already been neutralized by our hardworking immune system!
Uncle Corona could even be around and within us now, beyond the radar of test kits. However, our immunity, if strong, will always put it in its place!
Now, when the immune system weakens due to self-generated toxins from unhealthy living, germs rush in to "help". And when it shuts down due to toxin overload, germs grow wild and cause life-threatening infections!
Never fight bacteria, fungi and viruses for it is a war we will NEVER win! Instead boost your immunity to survive and thrive in a world crowded with invisible germs that play a crucial role in the cycle of life!
According to statistics about the Coronavirus pandemic, published by the World Health Organization on 21st March 2020, Italy is the worst hit nation accounting for the highest number of deaths in the world, of about 9%. The total death rate in China is just 4%.
Why are deaths in Italy higher, as a result of the viral outbreak?
One vital factor that is responsible for this figure is the age of its population. According to The New York Times, Italy has the oldest population in Europe, wherein about 23% of its inhabitants are above 65 years!
And many of the deaths in Italy have been among people in their 80s and 90s!
As at 10.35am, on 23rd March 2020, the Nigeria Center For Disease Control announced the very first COVID-19 death in Nigeria!
And you know what? The deceased patient was a 67-year old male who returned to Nigeria following medical treatment in UK!
What more? He had the underlying chronic diseases - multiple myeloma (cancer) & diabetes - and was undergoing chemotherapy! Triple trouble for the body; Corona to the rescue!
As people grow in age, the chances of developing one or two chronic diseases rise, which is more often than not due to MANY years of neglecting the elements of healthy living.
Hence, self-generated toxins graduate to the tissue level, manifesting as Type 2 Diabetes for instance, and to the organ level, manifesting as Kidney failure, for example. And along the way, the immune system is overwhelmed and weakened!
So, it shouldn't be surprising if such chronic diseases in the elderly make them more prone to the potentially severe consequences of the Coronavirus that will 'feed' and grow wildly on toxins, in them.
Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and houses one of the largest youth populations in the world! With a population of 200 million+, more than half of us are youths below the age of 30 years!
In this vein, I really don't see a devastating Coronavirus epidemic in 9ja!
To the average youth, whose immunity is 'fairly' strong, exposure to Uncle Corona will engender little to zero symptoms & life continues!
Infact, the earlier the larger, youth population is exposed to Uncle Corona, if they haven't already, the faster the epidemic will disappear due to the development of "herd immunity" wherein our collective immune systems render the new virus strain, harmless!
If you're a youth, like me, don't let this scare you! Remember, viruses are everywhere and have a productive role to play in our lives!
This nationwide lockdown, driven mainly by fear which REALLY contributes in weakening the immunity, is certainly going to leave a lot of people's livelihood hanging on a thread!
Speaking about a global lockdown of activities, which obviously prompted Nigeria to follow suit, it's frankly NOT the solution we need!
A lockdown, running into weeks, will lead to the closure of small & medium businesses, massive job losses, food scarcity & inflation among others!
That is the recipe for economic disaster which is far heavier than the Corona pandemic. We can easily recover from a viral outbreak but certainly not from an economic crisis!
What world leaders are supposed to do is give EXCLUSIVE attention to the elderly in the society as well those with chronic illnesses, by educating & providing them with basic amenities, so they will have improved immunity against the new virus...
..while the rest of the world continues driving the economy. Unless of course, there is a hidden agenda!
The preventive measures we see on AIT and other TV channels, such as washing one's hands and social distancing, should be for the elderly or lower age groups who silently battle with one or two chronic diseases.
If you are a youth, reading this, don't assume your immunity is strong enough.
If you don't suffer from the Coronavirus now, you could develop a chronic disease, later on, that becomes deadly and attractive to other germs, if you keep on living an unhealthy lifestyle!
Habits such as smoking or drug abuse, for instance, can severely weaken your immunity, make you really sick and prone to untimely death!
You have a lifelong responsibility to uproot the Root Agents of Disease, through healthy living which will consequently boost your immune system to rock-hard levels!
If you are an elderly, reading this, or you are burdened with one or two chronic diseases, it's super important you adhere to those preventive measures, more of which you'll learn in the hot links I'll share below.
And even more important it is that you also boost your immunity through Healthy Living for you can never be too careful in protecting yourself from a ubiquitous virus you can't even see with your eyes!
In conclusion, remember that man wasn't made to be treated by man!
Till date, none of the scientists in the world have been able to produce specific vaccines (poisons, in my opinion), effective against Uncle Corona & its past relatives that caused pandemics - SARS in early 2003 and MERS in 2012.
Man was made with an innate, self-healing ability which grows stronger when he draws closer to Nature!
To all age groups, preparation (boosting our immunity) is better than prevention for we can never be too careful in avoiding exposure to the new strain of the Coronavirus, if we haven't already been exposed to it!
The question on everyone's mind now will undoubtedly be - when is the pandemic going to end?
I really can't say for it's tied to two factors.
The governments' effort in exclusively educating & caring for their affected elderly and 'susceptible' citizens without hurting the economy, which I doubt will happen!
Secondly, our individual efforts to boost our immunity to easily inactivate the famous Corona, so there will be zero deaths, in the present, and eventually zero confirmed cases, in the future!

How To Think Your Way Out Of Pain!
In the mid 20th century, during the dark days of World War II, military doctors reported that many soldiers who were wounded on the battlefields did not require painkillers!
They deduced that these soldiers felt no pain because they were glad, knowing the injury is their one-way ticket into the safety of a hospital and eventually back home, away from the terrifying war!
The mind-body connection, which remains a phenomenon in the medical world, is one of the most powerful concepts you can take advantage of to improve your health!
Do you know that the degree to which you feel pain, due to physical injury, is related to how much you see the pain as good or bad?
From a biologic point of view, pain does not originate from that wound you see on you but from your brain!
Ask an amputee and he or she will confirm this! An amputee, someone whose hand or leg has been cut off, experiences what is medically referred to as a Phantom Limb!
This is a false and usually painful sensation such a person feels, occasionally or often, from their hand or leg which is obviously not there!
The posterior surface of your brain has an extensive "sensory map" which represents, and is connected to, every part of your skin and the tissue beneath.
So, when a sharp blade slits your finger, a specific point on your brain, representing that finger, is stimulated and chemical substances are released into your blood which induce pain.
Now, this pain you feel is actually for your own good!
It is critical in the process of healing. Sadly, we quickly interrupt this crucial process by swallowing painkillers, such as Panadol. More about this in a subsequent newsletter.
It has now been established that any pain you feel originates from your brain and not the wound!
Now, this is good news! Why so?
It means that it's within your thinking power to lessen the pain you feel! Simply do what those soldiers of old, did!
When you have a cut or bruise, don't set your eyes on the wound. If you see the wound as the worst thing that has happened to you, you'll feel the worst pain ever!
From a biologic perspective, when you think negatively, "pain gates" in your spinal cord open up, which heightens the degree of transmission between the site of injury and your brain.
Literally shift your attention away from it so negative thoughts won't thrive and compound the pain!
Of course, a void will always be refilled with something.
If you repel negative thoughts, you certainly should introduce positive thoughts, by listening to soothing music for instance, or do something positive, like engaging in your hobby, so the pain won't remind you of the wound.
When you think positively, those pain gates are almost shut as your brain directs the release of feel-good hormones, such as dopamine and serotonin, which are natural analgesics that reduce pain!
For minor issues, such as a bruise, that will naturally heal in time, thinking and acting positive will help you cope with the pain.
However, for major or urgent issues, such as a burn, you should quickly address the source of the issue or seek medical assistance to control the situation. Only after this, should you adopt that pain-relieving practice.
Now, it may surprise you to know that a positive mental attitude isn't just beneficial in alleviating pain!
The growing incidence of chronic diseases and the decreasing lifespan of the average Nigerian is partly because we don't rule but are controlled by the negative emotions of doubt, fear, anger among others!
When you assume and maintain a positive mental attitude, it will contribute in activating your self-healing ability which puts you on the path to a longer and stronger life.

Why You Should Lose Faith In The Medical System!
"Ogbeni Kunle!", he called me while one of his fingers pointed at a packet of Panadol tablets, dangling in his other hand.
"Yesterday, I swallow this one, this and that one. Today, I wan take 5 of am! Wetin you think?", he smirked casually.
My jaw dropped in amazement. I walked closer to Sh*ttu, our neighbourhood electrician, to enquire about the conditions that led him to bank on Panadol.
He revealed to me that he's been having cataarh and a slight headache, since yesterday which prompted him to grab the pills for a quick relief!
I felt sad for he was using the wrong solution for an issue that wasn't really the issue!
The catarrh and headache were actually his body's natural attempt to get rid of the harmful effects of the real problem! Unfortunately, those tablets were interrupting this natural process! More on this in a subsequent newsletter!
Well, I had to sensitize him about the real problem, kept a secret by the Medical System.
Over the years of medical research and reflection, I came to the conclusion that the genesis of all known chronic diseases that develop slowly, such as diabetes, arthritis or hypertension, are the 5 Root Agents of Disease.
In a nutshell, they are Poor Sleep, Mental Negativity, Negligence of Causality, Sedentary Living and Wrong Eating!
Moreover, I opine that acute diseases, such as bone fractures due to car accidents, and even genetic diseases, such as Sickle Cell Anaemia, are "indirectly" caused or worsened by those Root Agents!
Now, here's more on why you ought to lose faith in conventional medical practices, especially in the treatment of chronic diseases.
In 2011, one of the published articles of the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that almost 90% of prevalent global ailments are chronic diseases! It also showed that a whooping 30% of all deaths in the world today are due to chronic cardiovascular diseases.
What more? According to their statistics, chronic diseases cannot be conclusively treated with orthodox medical procedures!
Think about this. When a w**d is cut off or fumigated but its roots are still left intact, underneath the soil, won't such unwanted plant re-grow in the future?
It certainly will! And of course, the chemicals sprayed on such soil would gradually choke it up and make it less fertile!
This is exactly what the Medical System, comprising the average doctor and pharmacist, do to patients with chronic diseases!
Deliberately or not, they offer their sick, a quick fix that buries the real problem. And when the issue resurfaces, they run back to the system. The cycle continues, more or less, like a repeat business!
What patients, like my friend Sh*ttu, fail to realise is that the longer the real problem - those root agents - is ignored; the closer they reach a health crisis that shortens their lifespan and may lead to untimely death.
And the more they use conventional remedies that interfere with the natural healing process, the earlier this crisis will be experienced.
Frankly, in acute health conditions caused by accidents, such as burns, fractures or sudden heart failure, the high success rate of conventional practices of the Medical System is undeniable and remarkable!
However, it just doesn't work effectively in treating chronic health issues.
All sorts of life-threatening chronic diseases originate from the Root Agents of Disease and are worsened in patients who do little to nothing to uproot them!
Are you in ignorance or negligence about these root agents?
Your health and everything else you value which leans on it, will be at stake, if you remain so!
The good news is that these root agents are totally within your power to eliminate, even right in your home!

A sweet Coke a Day, takes you closer to the Grave!
The fiery rays of the Sun caressed my skin, immediately I alighted from the Danfo bus which came to a halt at a point in Oshodi. Here I was, in one of the busiest places in Lagos, where humans crisscrossed the roads like ants.
Leaving the screams of the conductors, behind me, I walked forward to where long rickety buses, en route to Ikorodu, were parked.
Luckily, I found a seat in one of these buses that was filling up with passengers, pretty fast. The weather was quite hot that afternoon but my attention wasn't on the heat but on a fellow passenger that sat beside me.
He looked uneasy as he called the attention of a street hawker, with a hiss. Immediately he grabbed the chilled bottle of Coke, he uncapped it and began gulping it down his throat to the very last drop! I stroked my chin as I pondered over this!
**Quick Fact 1**
Roughly 65% of your whole body mass is water! Roughly 80% of your pink, squishy brain is water! Roughly 90% of the blood, flowing in you, is water! And when you lose water, roughly 90% of it must be replenished from what you eat and drink!
From my studies in Medical School, I understood that when the weather is hot, your body will attempt to eliminate internal heat by increasing blood flow to your skin.
To improve heat elimination, your sweat glands will also be stimulated to release water onto your skin, which absorbs and evaporates this heat in your blood.
Now, as water is gradually being lost from you, via sweating and breathing, a point is reached when you become really thirsty.
What do you do when thirst comes knocking? Grab a sweetened drink, like my bus partner did or have a chilled bottle of clean water, which your body cries for?
I must admit that one of the untold factors that contributes to the development of life-threatening chronic diseases, such as Type 2 diabetes & hypertension, is Water Drought!
This is a situation where your body loses more water than it receives. Sadly, the consumption of soft or hard drinks, worsens the situation by dehydrating you further.
What more? Numerous studies have shown that regular consumption of soft drinks leads to premature aging, tooth decay, heartburn, asthma, premature birth, kidney stones, liver damage among other serious issues!
**Quick Fact 2**
Sugar is addictive and can lead to oxidative stress. A 60cl bottle of Coke, Fanta or Pepsi contains at least 50g or 10 spoons of sugar! That's 30 spoons or more if you drink 3 bottles, today!
A sweetened drink, a day, takes you closer to the Grave! However, you can turn the table around and begin experiencing a longer, stronger and happier life when you observe the Rules of Smart Drinking that make up the 2nd Law of Diet.
For the sake of brevity, I'll share just 2, of about 18 rules available, relevant to this newsletter.
Firstly, when you are thirsty, drink water and nothing else. If you are already addicted to soft drinks, don't abruptly stop consuming them to avoid the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Instead, cut down your intake over time!
Secondly, when you are hungry, don't eat but drink water or consume a fruit with high-water content, such as watermelon. Your body usually confuses hunger with thirst so when you feel hungry at an unusual time, it's most likely your body asking for water. Listen to it!

RUBBING YOUR EYE IS FORBIDDEN!
So, while you're busy doing what you usually do, one bold, little thing, perhaps an insect or a dust particle, finds its way into your eye! Ouch!
What will be your reaction? Well, the average folk will immediately use his/her finger or hand to vigorously rub the affected eye!
This is not just smart but unhealthy for it won't just make it harder to eliminate the "uninvited guest" but will redden your eye!
So, what should you do instead to eject such foreign material, in less time, without hurting your eyeball?
Simply hold the eyelashes, of the affected eye, with your thumb and index finger and gently pull your eyelid downwards. Then blink rapidly, several times.

How Deep Breathing Suppresses The ENEMY Within You
Series | | Final Episode
I'll never forget a certain experience, which happened to me many years back though it still feels like it was just a day ago.
With my slim "chinos" trousers and tucked-in, sleeveless shirt, that lacked a tie, I sat in a large hall, at campus with about 100 medical students, watching group representatives, walk towards the stage to do their presentations.
As the time drew near for me to represent my group and speak to the crowd of students, I began drowning in the pool of trepidation. I could hear my heart, beating out loud, like a steel hammer.
I walked to the stage which did lack a microphone and a projector and began offloading words. Then it happened!
As I looked at the faces of the students, who either stared blankly or appeared sleepy, I caught talker's block. I opened my mouth and words no longer came out! The second speaker had to step in to resume our group's presentation.
I must admit that you and I are truly a masterpiece of creation, physically equipped with as many as 10 bodily systems which work perfectly together to ensure our survival on Earth.
One of the systems, that relates to this topic; the one that was responsible for me, getting cold feet before the crowd, is the Nervous System (N.S).
Simply put, the N.S, comprising your brain, spinal cord and countless miles of nerve cells and tissues, collectively work to coordinate, at the speed of light, your body's response to external events.
Now, when you encounter a situation that threatens your survival, a certain part of your N.S, known as the Sympathetic or the Fight-Or-Flight System, is instantly activated.
On the obvious surface, your breathing rate hastens, your heart beats up like a loud drum, your skin turns pale, your muscles become jittery and your eye pupils dilate.
Below the surface, your cardiovascular system diverts greater amounts of blood to the organs in you that need to be supercharged, such as your brain & muscles, so you can fight or flee away from the "threat".
As a result, food digestion slows down, reproductive function ceases, your kidneys halt urine production and your immune system weakens.
Ultimately, billions of cells, that make you up, needed for the fight or flight, are supercharged and grow weaker as they consume tons of stored energy.
Now, this cascade of bodily events is crucial when faced with a situation that requires your urgent response in just a short time. Sadly, we are no longer in a world of cavemen whose N.S helped them successfully fight or flee away from wild animals.
We are now in a world where the enemy is no longer out there but within us; a world where we give negative, heart-wrenching meanings to our daily experiences.
Our body really doesn't know the difference between what kills us emotionally and what kills us physically so it just activates the N.S so we "survive".
Now, imagine the havoc this causes in every cell within us, as every hour is spent fighting an enemy that doesn't exist. A havoc that culminates into chronic diseases and eventually, untimely death!
Cutting to the chase, Deep breathing is vital in switching your body from the sympathetic state of restlessness to the parasympathetic state of calmness!
The human body is really not a divided many but a united whole. So, when you deliberately take a deep breath, you pass a message to every cell in you, across all the bodily systems, that there is no cause for alarm!
Consequently, your cells are able to replenish their energy as normal, bodily functions resume. This then puts you, on the path to a longer and stronger life.
