THE RIGHT WAY TO CARE FOR YOUR HAIR
Never wash or rinse hair in hot water; it can damage hair as much as it can harm your skin. When you take a bath in hot water, your skin tends to dry out. The same will happen to your hair as well as your scalp.
Instead, wash your hair in warm water. Better yet, if you can stand it, use cool water. Rinses should always be at room temperature before you use them.
When you use a conditioner, never apply it to the scalp. Instead, rub it into your palms and apply it toward the ends of the hair, where it is the driest. Adding conditioner to the scalp can cause the hair to lie flat, but if you stay away from the scalp end of the hair, you will have bouncy, vibrant hair.
After washing, smooth your hair down to get rid of excess water. Do not wring long hair; it can cause breakage.
Instead of rubbing your hair in a towel, wrap it up and keep it wrapped for a few minutes to absorb the excess liquid. Rubbing your hair can cause it to frizz, but wrapping it will soak up the moisture without stressing the hair strands.
Hair dryers tend to damage and dry out your hair. Instead of completely blow-drying it, get your hair only about 90% dry. Then, let your hair air-dry the rest of the way. This can do a lot to preserve the cuticle of the hair shaft.
Wet hair is susceptible to breakage. Never use a brush on wet hair. Instead, use a stiff comb. If you have long hair, carefully start combing out any tangles near the tips, working your way up toward the scalp.
Use natural-bristle brushes because they will cause less damage to your hair than plastic bristles. Natural bristles tend to coax the oils toward the end of the hair, instead of scraping them roughly down the hair shaft.
