In the society, there is constant pressure to look and smell good. Charming smile is attractive.
Have you suffered social embarrassment due to mouth odor, and resorted to isolating yourself from desirable healthy social interactions?
A thread
Bad Breath (Mouth Odor), medically called , is a persistent foul smell emanating from the mouth. It is a common and universal affliction suffered by many, irrespective of age, s*x, or social status.
Bad breath affects an estimated 25% of the people.
Mouth Odor creates a high level of stress and anxiety, and low levels of self esteem as sufferers interact with others in their daily lives.
It may make them less inclined to socialize with others including intermingling with coworkers.
Consequently, oral malodor can disconnect a person from his/her social environment and intimate relationships, thus earning the title "Social life killer". Some have lost a promising relationship because of bad breath.
There are number of factors that can cause bad breath.
About 80% of cases originate from the Dental conditions, such as poor oral hygiene, tooth decay, gum diseases etc.
Bacteria build up often occurs in places a toothbrush cannot reach.
Many diseases such as respiratory track infections, chronic sinusitis, chronic acid reflux etc.... can cause bad breath as well.
Dry mouth (Xerostomia) which can be a symptom of some medical conditions or side effects of some drugs can lead to halitosis.
Saliva is necessary to moisten the mouth, neutralize acids produced in the mouth and to wash away oral debris.
Certain food items such as garlic, onions, to***co and alcohol products can also cause oral malodor.
Surprisingly, there are apparently healthy individuals who complain of having bad breath which no one else can perceive and for which no other condition can be found.
Visiting the Dentist is the first point of call in the management of halitosis. Your dental care giver will be able to take care of any oral related issues, and refer appropriately if need be.
Routine professional Cleaning of the teeth is very important in this regard.
On your own:
=> Brush after morning and night meals,
=> Brush your tongue as well,
=> Avoid food and beverages that causes foul smell,
=>Avoid to***co products,
=> Avoid dry mouth.
=> Use mouth rinses according to professional instructions.
Politely advice anyone you came across with offensive breath to seek dental help.
