Part 2 🙌🏻 Capacity vs Load

Photos from Body Restoration's post 31/05/2026

The body doesn’t keep score based on whether something is “good” or “bad” for you.

It responds to the total amount of stress (load) you ask it to manage and whether it has the capacity to adapt.

That’s why injuries can occur after:
🏋️ One heavy lift
🏃 A sudden increase in training
💻 Months of repetitive work

Different mechanisms. Same principle.

When load consistently exceeds capacity, tissues and the nervous system become more likely to become irritated.

The goal isn’t avoiding load! It’s building a body that can tolerate and recover from it. That’s where strength, sleep, nutrition, recovery, stress management, and gradual progression all play a role.

Load Vs Capacity Part 1

Want more capacity?
Start treating recovery like training 👇

Quick ways to help your body recover better:

✔️ Sleep more
Your nervous system loves sleep. Your 2am doom scroll does not.

✔️ Eat enough protein + fuel
Your body can’t rebuild itself from iced coffees and good intentions alone.

✔️ Move gently on rest days
Walks, mobility, stretching = circulation + recovery support.

✔️ Reduce stress where possible
Stress is still load. Your body doesn’t care if it’s a deadlift or an emotionally chaotic Tuesday.

✔️ Build gradually
Too much too soon = flare-up city. Capacity is built slowly and consistently.

✔️ Recovery isn’t “doing nothing”
Recovery is giving your body what it needs to adapt.

The goal isn’t avoiding load.
The goal is becoming able to handle more of it 💪

Your body adapts to what it repeatedly experiences.

Everyday stress, training, work, poor sleep, emotions, movement, and recovery all add load to the system. Capacity is your body’s ability to handle that load.

When load stays within your capacity:
💪🏻 the body adapts, rebuilds, and gets stronger.

When load constantly exceeds your capacity:
🫩 fatigue, tightness, pain, reduced performance, and injury risk increase.

This is why recovery matters. Recovery isn’t just “resting” it’s the process where your body restores energy, repairs tissue, regulates the nervous system, and prepares to tolerate load again.

The goal isn’t to avoid stress completely. It is to build a body that can recover and adapt to it more effectively. That’s how resilience is built. 🔥

Recovery isn’t passive. It’s how your body adapts.

Most people focus on what they do (training, gym, work)… But ignore what allows them to actually improve. If you’re always sore, tired, or tight. It’s not always a training problem.

Sometimes it’s a recovery problem.

Follow along as we unpack recovery, debunk myths, explain your body’s processes so you can take charge and tailor your own recovery 💪🏻✨

This Club Rugby Season 🏴‍☠️

While Mia has been doing work with the Napier Marist team, Carina has been busy supporting the Pirates on the other side of the fence! She’s been doing pregame massages and some recovery work (or some have called it panel beating) on training nights with the awesome CapePhysio team 🙌🏻

We are proud to be aligned with this club over the rugby season! Go Pirates 🏴‍☠️
