World Blood Donor Day
Te Rā Tuku Toto o te Ao 🩸🩸
While in Christchurch in May, I took the opportunity to donate blood.
It's a simple process, takes very little time, and has the potential to make an enormous difference in someone's life.
Every day, many of us rely on blood and plasma donations for surgery, cancer treatment, trauma care, childbirth complications, and many other medical conditions. Yet only a small percentage of eligible people donate regularly.
As healthcare practitioners, we often talk about helping people. Donating blood or plasma is another meaningful way to support our communities.
It is super easy to donate even when travelling. You can often fit a donation into your day. And enjoy a wee snack afterwards!
For those of us in Central Otago, the NZ Blood Service donor bus visits Queenstown, making it even easier to contribute closer to home.
If you've ever considered donating, perhaps this is your reminder.
👏A huge thank you to everyone who already gives. Your donation could help save or improve the life of someone else's parent, child, friend, colleague or neighbour.

Nothing is more revealing than Movement 🚶🏃
Movement tells a story.
It can show us where the body feels strong, where it compensates, and sometimes where it has adapted to old injuries, stress, or habits.
Whether through gardening, gym workout, walking, swimming, or cycling, paying attention to how you move often reveals more than where you feel pain.
Movement is information. We just need to know how to listen.
What is your body telling you today?

A C-section scar is often much bigger than the scar we can see.
Most people see a thin line on the skin and assume that's the whole story. In reality, several layers are carefully opened, one at a time, to safely reach the baby, then closed again in the exact reverse order.
What I find interesting in practice is that the skin can appear well healed while deeper tissues may still feel restricted. Sometimes that shows up as pulling, numbness, sensitivity, abdominal tightness, changes in posture, or simply a feeling that the area doesn't move quite the same as it used to.
This is one reason scar therapy can be helpful. Not because the scar is a problem, but because healing doesn't always happen evenly across every layer involved in the surgery.
The good news is that tissues can continue to adapt and improve long after surgery. Whether your C-section was months ago or many years ago, it is often possible to improve comfort, mobility, and confidence in the area.
If you've been curious about how your scar may be influencing the way you move or feel, I'd be happy to have that conversation with you.

Te Rā Whakanui i te rā whānau o te Kingi o Ingarangi
- The clinic will reopen on Tuesday, the 2nd of June.
Winter is coming soon ❄️
Both the clinic space and the Pilates lounge are getting a little TLC over the next few days, and weeks — a few updates, improvements and cosy touches for the colder season.
But don’t worry… we are still OPEN 😊
Massage therapy sessions are continuing as usual, and Pilates classes are running on schedule.
Thank you for your patience while things get refreshed behind the scenes. I’m looking forward to creating an even nicer space for you to move, recover and feel your best this winter.
Stay warm,

We definitely felt the cold these past few days, and suddenly we hit the 2 digits! Ideal time to catch a cold!! Don't know what to wear...
As we move into flu season, please help us keep the clinic space safe and healthy for everyone. 🤍
If you are feeling unwell — including cold or flu symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, or significant congestion — please reschedule your appointment.
Massage and movement sessions are most beneficial when your body is ready to recover, not when it is actively fighting illness. Attending while unwell also increases the risk of spreading infections to other clients and myself.
If you are planning a flu vaccination or another vaccine appointment, please allow your body a little recovery time before booking an intensive massage session, particularly if you usually experience fatigue or flu-like symptoms afterwards.
At HL Movement & Massage:
• Hygiene and client safety remain a priority
• Equipment and surfaces are cleaned between clients
• Practitioner and client wellbeing are both respected
• Flexibility will be offered where possible for illness-related rescheduling
Thank you for helping create a safe, respectful, and healthy environment for everyone this winter.
