The Role of Ingestibles in Holistic Skincare

In the pursuit of radiant skin, the concept of beauty from within has gained significant traction, leading to the rise of ingestibles in holistic skincare. Ingestibles, often in the form of supplements, powders, or functional foods, are designed to nourish the skin from the inside out, complementing topical skincare routines. This approach aligns with the idea that true beauty is a reflection of overall health and wellness.

The Science Behind Ingestibles

Ingestibles are formulated with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other bioactive compounds known to support skin health. For example, collagen supplements, rich in amino acids, aim to boost skin elasticity and reduce wrinkles. Similarly, omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are celebrated for their anti-inflammatory properties, helping to calm irritated skin and support hydration. Antioxidants like vitamin C and E protect the skin from oxidative stress, which can lead to premature aging.

Integrating Ingestibles into Holistic Skincare

Holistic skincare recognizes that the skin is not an isolated entity but part of a complex system influenced by diet, lifestyle, and overall health. Ingestibles play a crucial role in this framework by addressing internal factors that affect skin health, such as nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, and gut health. For instance, probiotics, another popular ingestible, are known to improve gut health, which is closely linked to skin conditions like acne and eczema.

When integrated with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and a comprehensive skincare routine, ingestibles can enhance skin health, contributing to a more youthful and radiant complexion. However, it’s important to note that ingestibles should not replace a healthy diet but rather supplement it, providing additional support where needed.

The skin barrier is essential because it serves as the body's first line of defense against external aggressors like pollutants, bacteria, and harsh environmental conditions. It locks in moisture, keeping your skin hydrated and supple while preventing irritants and allergens from penetrating deeper layers. A strong, intact skin barrier is crucial for maintaining overall skin health, reducing the risk of irritation, inflammation, and other skin issues. When your skin barrier is compromised, it can lead to dryness, sensitivity, and an increased likelihood of breakouts and infections. Prioritizing the care of your skin barrier is key to achieving and maintaining healthy, radiant skin.

Milia are small, white, keratin-filled cysts that form just under the surface of the skin. They are commonly found in groups on areas like the nose, cheeks, and chin. Milia are not harmful, but they can be a cosmetic concern for some people.

Causes of Milia:
Milia develop when dead skin cells or keratin (a protein found in skin, hair, and nails) get trapped beneath the skin's surface. This can occur for several reasons, including:

Skin trauma or injury: Burns, rashes, or heavy use of skin care products.
Sun damage: Prolonged exposure to the sun can lead to thicker skin, which can trap keratin.
Use of heavy or oily skin products: These can clog pores, leading to milia.
Certain skin conditions: Some skin conditions can cause milia as a side effect.
Treating Milia:
To remove milia, a topical numbing cream is applied to the area for about 10-15 minutes. Afterward, a pen is used to cauterize the milia, effectively removing them.

Safety of Skin Tag & Milia Removal:
Both skin tag and milia removal are generally safe procedures when performed by a trained professional. However, it's important to follow post-treatment care instructions to avoid complications such as infection or scarring.

Number of Treatments Required:
In most cases, a single treatment is sufficient to remove milia or skin tags. However, the exact number of treatments can vary depending on the size and number of milia or skin tags being treated.

Contagiousness:
Milia are not contagious. They are a result of trapped skin cells and are not caused by bacteria or viruses.

Is Retinol Safe to Use in the Summer? Here's What You Need to Know! 🌞

If you follow the below guidelines—definitely yes!
If your clients have been using retinol regularly, they may continue during the summer. However, if they are new to retinol, it's best to wait until the cooler months. Retinol can increase skin sensitivity to sunlight. Here are our summer usage tips:
For Fitzpatrick skin types 1-2, opt for a gentler 0.3% concentration and apply daily, while avoiding direct sunlight.
For Fitzpatrick skin types 3-6, also use a 0.3% concentration but limit application to twice a week.
Regardless of skin type, remind your clients to always wear sunscreen and reapply every two hours when exposed to the sun.
