The beginning

As we prepare for another 5k/10k charity run for Omar’s Dream Foundation, it’s hard not to think of Omar every step of the way. His energy, his smile, and his larger-than-life personality still serves as the driving force behind every effort we make to reach out to as many hospitalized children as we can. Omar had cancer, but all those who knew Omar would tell you that cancer did not define Omar, rather Omar redefined cancer. He did not let cancer isolate him, and at age 9 he did not want cancer to isolate any child.

As October 20th (date for our 12th annual fundraising event) draws close, I want to take a moment to celebrate the young boy whose love and kindness lives beyond his years. Omar’s legacy is a reflection of a life well-lived, and it continues to make a positive impact in the lives of many children, their families, and all those who support the work that the foundation does. Here is to Omar’s enduring legacy.
