Thinking about skipping the morning cleanse? Let’s talk about it 👀

TSW (topical steroid withdrawal), is something we see from time to time at the clinic. It’s a condition where stopping long term (or inappropriate) use of steroids results in symptoms like:

• severe sensitivity
• peeling/cracking/severe dryness
• redness, burning, and thickened skin

TSW, while rare, is incredibly difficult and frustrating to deal with - and should be managed with medical guidance (your GP or dermatologist).

But alongside medical care - experienced skin therapists can help with managing symptoms through topical barrier support and highly personalised care. This particular client is still on her skin journey with us, but has seen significant improvements under Tanya’s care ❤️‍🩹

The Wood’s Lamp: an underrated tool in skin analysis, let’s talk about it ⬇️

A Wood’s lamp is a diagnostic fluorescence tool - skin specialists from dermatology practices to aesthetic clinics, use it to:

• visualise sebaceous activity
• identify superficial pigmentation
• help distinguish between epidermal and dermal pigmentation

In medical settings, it can also assist in identifying certain bacterial and fungal skin infections 🧫

At Skin Ritual, we use a Wood’s lamp as part of our skin assessments to gather more information and build a clearer picture of your skin’s condition 🤍
