LIQUID GOLD 🍯

That’s what the Honourable Prime Minister Modi of India called our Mānuka ♥️ Thank you ✨

We look forward to building Beekeeping & Innovation Co-operatives with Madhumakhiwala Raw Honey Nimit Singh Rocky 🐝

Photos from Kai Ora Honey's post 12/07/2026

I have been in a lot of rooms about mānuka. None of them like yesterday’s.

“India–New Zealand: A Winning Partnership” in Tāmaki Makaurau, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon — the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in 40 years. Prime Minister Luxon’s advice to businesses looking to India stayed with me: learn the market, find the right partners.

Later, at Spark Arena, Prime Minister Modi called our mānuka honey “liquid gold.” He spoke about India learning from New Zealand’s beekeeping expertise, and drew a line between manaakitanga and Atithi Devo Bhava, between kaitiakitanga and India’s respect for the natural world. Different languages, same wairua.

I heard that as a 3rd gen beekeeper from Te Hiku first then as an exporter of mānuka honey 🍯

Because only last month we welcomed Nimit Singh Rocky of Madhumakhiwala into our ngahere — an Indian beekeeper walking among our hives, sharing our passion about bees, whenua, and the whānau who depend on both.

I am incredibly proud to have been in a room of giants. It is a privilege with pressure. Pressure to pave the way for Māori beekeepers and innovators. Pressure to my tūpuna, to protect our taonga — mānuka.

Learn the market. Find the right partners. We are building them as we speak.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone holding this kaupapa alongside us.

Mānawatia a Matariki ✨ ♥️

Pōhutukawa — the whetū that carries those we’ve loved and lost. This one is for our pāpā.

We remember him by keeping his promise: to nurture the next generation, the way he and our māmā raised us.

And watching Mum now — her mokopuna in her arms — we understand. Growing old is a privilege. This is the gift he left us.

They are safe in our hands. 🤲
They are our future. 🌱
They are our taonga. 💎

Ngā mihi o Matariki ki a koutou katoa. 🐝 🍯 #

Mānawatia a Matariki ✦ Parāoa parai — golden outside, pillowy within, made to be shared. This one’s our retake on Reo Māori Products, Resources & Content beautiful original; we’ve added our honey spin and we’re sharing the sweetness on. Swipe for the full recipe → 🤍

2 · Matariki calls us home
A time to remember, to gather our people close, and to share kai. And no Matariki table is complete without parāoa parai — torn warm and passed hand to hand. 🤍

3 · What you’ll need
Pantry-simple. Milk, water, yeast, flour, salt — and a spoon of Kai Ora honey to feed the dough. Save this one for your Matariki kai 🍯

4 · Make it rise
Honey in with the yeast, a gentle knead, then let it double under a damp tea towel. That spoon of honey deepens the golden colour and keeps every piece soft.

5 · Golden & crisp
Roll, cut, and into the oil at 165°C — flipping till both sides are golden. Drain, rest 5, and try not to eat one straight from the pot 😅

6 · Butter & Kānuka honey
Butter and a slow drizzle of Kai Ora Kānuka honey, pooling into the warm, torn middle. Our forever favourite. What’s the topping your whānau reaches for first? 👇

7 · Give the gift of kai
Make a batch, tuck it into a kete with a jar of Kai Ora Kānuka honey, and share the manaakitanga with someone you love. Made to share 🤍 Ngā mihi o Matariki x

The bees 🐝 already know what Matariki teaches. ✨

All year the pī (bee) have worked — hive to mānuka, mānuka to hive. Now the cold comes, the harvest is in, and they draw in close and still.

Ka whakatā ngā pī. The bees rest, and so do we.

Kia tau te mauri.

Ka kite akuanei, e te whānau 🐝
